Default do I need to regear?

I have 3.73's and am going from stock to 4.5" long arm kit by RE .. which would put me at buying 37's or 35's.

I have heard that I won't have enough power and will need to regear to get back to a normal feeling, or do I not need to regear?

A shop is doing all the work and ordering the lift today ...

I am going to order tires and wheels as well what would you reccomend?

I have that lift on mine with 37s and it's liveable with the factory 4.10s that I have. Where I really notice it is on the highway trying to maintain 75 mph and while wheeling on the trail. Around town it's fine. Just not quite enough power for me though. With 3.73s I would think it would be very sluggish.

I will tell you I am definitely regearing. 5.13s for me. They are sitting on my garage floor waiting to go in.

I have a manual. Yeah I have heard its very sluggishn ..

ON the freeway I am not too worried, I never speed anyways ... as long as AI can hit 60 ...

I have driven my hubbys XJ plenty of times where it will just wobble to death at 55 ... not too fun.

I am gonna ask the guy whos doing the work today about regearing ...

with regearing ... its your axles/differentials (ring & Pinion) right? I am new to all this ... tlearning very slowly.

If you are even considering 37's you will want to go to 5:13 gears. Also if you have a 2 door you will most likly need drive shafts with that much lft. I have
35's with an auto and 4:88 gears and find myself locking out the Over drive for hills. My drive shafts lasted about 3k miles with a 4" lift. That may not be the case with a 4 door. good luck

I have a 4 door. My mechanic said its a possibilty. I am going to talk to him more ..

Will I have to regear to 5.13's or can i get by with 4.88's ...

is it better to go higher so its easier on the driveline?

Most will probably recommend the 5.13's with 37's, but with a manual I'd think that the 4.88's would be fine. If you wheel alot and want them as low as possible, then go with the 5.13's. I was torn between the 2 a while back and finally ordered 4.88's. I'm having them set up next week finally.

As for the driveline, the gear ratio has no effect on that, at least as far as angle goes. Lower gears will cause more torque multiplication and theoretically more tortional stress on the shafts, but the difference between 4.88's and 5.13's is probably not significant for our purposes.

Automatic is more forgiving than the manual. There is this thing called a torque converter. Yes you will lose OD but with a manual you will lose 6th and even 5th a lot of the time. You definately need to regear and it is always better to error on the low side so 5.13 is your best option. And I would say it is definately not liveable. It would suck really bad if you left it stock.

Agreed - You definitely want 5.13's with 37's and would even highly recommend them with 35's. That's what I ran on my JK until recently and loved the extra power that I got out of it

Please explain how the auto is more forgiving.
