Another DIY Swaybar disconnect idea
While underneath the JK unbolting the swaybar links to see how long it will take me out on the trail I had an idea.
Rather than removing or un-bolting the links I kept them connected and did something with the swaybar itself.
Here's the idea:
Remove the sway bar and cut it in half.
Sleeve the two halfs together about 6-8 inches on each side, so about a one foot piece of tube to sleeve with.
Drill a hole on each side of the cut through the sleeve and sway bar.
One side put a bolt to hold the sleeve in place.
Otherside put a removable pin.
Re-install everything that you took off.
When you get to the trail, remove the one pin and your done.
With the pin removed there should be good articulation in theory.
Does that make sense or am I crazy?

Makes perfect "sense" and would probably work exactly how you're thinking...until you went to re-connect. Getting both of your tires to sit in exactly the same position as where they are when you drill the hole could be pretty tricky i would think. But other than that, no real reason that i could see that it wouldnt work.

Well it was a thought, just trying to think outside of the box. Wasn't really planning on doing it, but thought I would put it out there in case another idea could be sprouted from it.
and apparently I should have put a disclaimer in the beginning in regards to suggesting JKS or anything similar, I'm aware of them, thanks.

I like the idea, but something would have to be done to keep the sway bar from moving left-right. I would think that you'd have to put something to retain it's position on both sides of the frame on either side.
Besides, reconnecting usually requires adjusting the sway bar to reconnect anyway. With this you might have to get a little dirtier underneath to line up the pin.
