Default Steering Stabilizer

Had a few death wobble episodes, which have been fixed (I hope). Found a suspension guy that seemed to understand Jeeps. Ended up being wollowed out track bar bolt holes and bushings. He also installed a caster/cam bolt kit that corrected the geometry due to my lift.

I still have some "bump shimmy" occasionally, which scares the crap out of me. Those who have experienced full-out DW with kids in the back seat understand what I'm talking about...

Still have an OEM steering stabilizer on- would a new heavier duty SS take some of that bump shimmy out? If so, whats the best heavy duty brand that wont break the bank?

Thanks

I have a Fox stab. and synergy clamp and bracket. A little over $200 for all but works great. The clamp is for the tie-rod and bracket for the axle side raises the stab higher so rocks wont bust ot up.

Huge difference from stock. I have the Fox with relocation brackets. Make sure the alignment geo is correct as well. Stabilizer only stabilizes, it doesn't correct!

I have the Rough Country dual setup and it certainly helped with the "wandering" feeling generated by my tires... As stated above though, it definitely helps and does not fix a problem.. Even after I put mine on, it still wandered a bit and it was 100% the steering and alignment geometry... Good luck...

Describe the "bump shimmy".

I am not understanding - DW has been fixed, but still getting bump shimmy which is still scaring the crap out of you. Is this bad caster angles? Bump steer due to bad steering component angles?

Why not figure out why you have whatever issue you still have, instead of throwing money at a bandaid?

Check Planman's DW cure. The Steering Stab is only a mask. Planman has the steps to solve this problem. You will prob just chew through the SS's until you truly solve the problem.

If "bump shimmy" means you hitting a bump and you get death wobble? Check your ball joints too, that was happening to me so checked everything out.
My upper ball joint was shot, replaced them, no more death wobble when I hit bumps.

The wallowed out track bar mounts likely caused your death wobble. Repairing the mounts helped with the death wobble but not the issue that wallowed the track bar mounts. The root of your problem is what caused the track bar mounts to wallow out. Could be ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link ends, control arm bushings, tires out of balance even a bad hub bearing. Check the torque on all suspension bolts. Something is causing your axle to vibrate or shimmy. This vibration/shimmy is putting stress on the suspension components and causing them wear which compounds the vibration/shimmy which causes more wear. It's an ugly cycle.

A steering stabilizer is not the answer. The stabilizer will mask the shimmy not stop it.

What was done to fix the wallowed track bar mounts?

Many people throw money at the problem without knowing the root cause. As the others said check out the Planman videos. Just google it.

Be sure to post up your findings.
