Default "Performance driving" Rubicon on dry pavement?

Yeah, I know.... Not exactly what it was designed for, but I have a daily-driver question.

I'm brand new to Jeeps. I've been driving for 40 years and have had plenty of seat time in performance cars and motorcycles, both on and off the track. Currently my work-rides are superdumps, bottom dumps, and the like. So I'm used to both cornering at the limits of sanity and crawling around at a snails pace to avert tipovers.

So now I have a Jeep and I'm just at a loss on how much I can play with it on the road.

For those who have danced on or over the limit, will these things "Push" in a corner like your average sedan/coupe or am I just going to spin or flip at the limit? Most passenger vehicles are nicely tuned to understeer when approaching cornering limits so that your front tires skidding a bit will give you some warning when you're getting close. But how about our SWB Wranglers? I've only had my Jeep for about two weeks. It's a '13 Rubicon 2-dr. So far, I've been driving it like I drive my dump trucks; afraid to corner too hard. But am I just being a sissy? I don't want to find out the hard way, so maybe you all can give me some clues???

Thanks,
Tom.

I have had my dad's YJ on two wheels before trying to beat the light to turn left. Respect how tall and top heavy these things are. I drive my JK like a granny around turns....Saves my pricey tires too

Yeah... Kinda figuring this to be the case. I've not pushed mine at all, but I really feel like it isn't gong to scream for help before it tries to go rubber-up. Thanks for your reply.

The over controlling traction control won't let you spin or flip, it will just eat through your tires and brakes.

But it's not a car, please take it easy on public roads; particularly if you load it up with stout bumpers.

Well it's good to know that the TC will at least let me play with the edge a time or two just to get the feel for it. I'm not a street-racer by any stretch of the imagination. I just like to know the feel of my cars before I am forced to make an emergency maneuver. But so far this Jeep doesn't give me the feeling of anything other than it's going to tip if I'm not careful.

Thanks.

I have e-rated tires on my rig, it doesn't lean hardly at all. I feel comfortable driving quickly as long as there aren't super sharp turns. I've actually gotten some liftoff oversteer from this thing (2dr), but usually it under steers. It all depends on your driving style. Once you get used to it, you'll be able to drive much quicker than normal.

Good to hear. BEFORE I go out and get used to it, I figured it was worth poking a few brains here first. All good replies so far. Thank you.

I'm actually a pretty slow driver, but you might enjoy this video I made a few weeks back out your way. Won't really teach you the limits of your Jeep (mine is top heavy with racks and gear and all kinds of other expedition mods), but perhaps it will give you a little smile (or laugh, LOL) ...
