Default help me pick a lift kit.

alright I really want to lift my jeep to fit 35's later on but don't know which kit to buy. I want to get at least 3 inches of lift but i need to keep it under $800. I looked at the rough country 4in lift but i don't think that kit comes with all the parts you would need. I also thought about a teraflex 2.5 lift and adding 3/4 spacers on top but I am still lost in what i want. So if anyone could recommend a kit under $800 that gets at or around 3-4 inches of lift please help me out. thanks.

i have installed both kits and can tell you that they will do the job for you and well. if you go the rough country route, i would recommend that you get a set of adjustable front lower control arms so that you can dial in your caster but other than that, you should be fine and should be able to still do this for about $800. you should know though that if you have a 2-door, you will want to get a new rear u-joint style drive shaft along with adjustable rear upper control arms to dial in your pinion angle. also, if you have an automatic, you will want to replace your front drive shaft with a u-joint style unit as well. while it is not critical to do this right away, the steep angles on a 2-door rear shaft will compromise the CV boots in a real hury and up front, the spline shaft boot will tear off when it makes contact with your tranny.

Why not do a 2.5 BB like tera or RC and a 1" body lift? That will keep you in budget and also easily clear 35's. Heck, for 800, you probably could do one of the new Teraflex coil BBs, a 1" BL and still stay under 800

Well i never thought about a body lift. Also i have never installed anything on any vehicle. So would i be able to install a lift kit or body lift by myself with a friend or two or would i be better off paying the money to get them installed professionally?
Alright so this BB would be fine right...

Definitely install them yourself! WOL's write-ups are extremely helpful and will get you through the installs without a hitch. Plus, if you would get stuck, you can always post your questions here and Im sure someone will have the answer for you fairly quickly. And just think of the cash you'll save and all the valuable knowledge you'll gain about your JK You never know when a break can occur on the trail. By installing your own lift, you will be more prepared to do a field repair.

And yes the Tera BB with shock extensions is a great lift, I ran it for about 10K without any problems.

As far as BL's go, most people seem to use either MORE or Performance Accessaries. I dont have one yet, but I'll most like go with one of those two.

I've installed the RC 2.5" lift on my JK and it went quite easily (by myself). I helped Torn and RescueX install a 1" BL on RescueX's JK (which already had a 2.5" lift) so that he could clear 35s. It was more a social event than that three of us were required. The one piece of advice I'd give is to soak the main bolts that hold the body in place with WD-40 the night before you do the job. We had a couple "toughies", and I've read where others did, too. After you pull the old bolts, ensure that you've cleaned out the threads before installing the new ones. Here's some pic's of RescueX's with a 2.5" BB and 1" BL on 35s I shot at the JK-Forum Disney run:
