Default Big Bear

What's the snow situation up in Big Bear? Anyone live up there? We're heading up Fri for the weekend for some snow play for the little kids and snow wheeling for the big kids and I'd like some first hand info instead of what I get from the weather report.

well, its snowing in the high desert right now. we're at the back side of big bear about 3200 ft so i imagine big bear is getting a nice share of snow fall. I think the question is will the roads be open to big bear?

Anyways......If the highways are closed, you can get up into Big Bear via "The Back Way" on the Coxey Truck Trail (aka Coxey Rd.). It's an easy dirt road that starts in Apple Valley and winds up to the back side into Big Bear. It ends at the corner of Big Pine Flats Campground and forestry road 3N16. Myself and some other Jeepin' buddies MAY be going up there this weekend.

So this road is passable with a foot or two so of snow? In good weather is this route quicker than driving up the 18?

It's passabls.....Just make sure you have all the basic recovery equipment on hand (just in case ) and go with some other Jeeps. (cause U shouldn't wheel alone!).

As far as quicker??? It depends on what part of Big Bear you're going to???
