Borrego Diablo Dropoff - Current Conditions?
It's been 16 years since I ran the Diablo Dropoff in Anza-Borrego. I'm heading that way soon, and was thinking about going to the Mud Caves, down the Diablo Dropoff to Fish Creek, then up to the end of Sandstone Canyon, and exit via Fish Creek. Does anyone have the current conditions on this route? All I could find was a thread from 2012, and I know there was a lot of rain down there since then, so unsure of what the current conditions are.

Looks different than it did back then. 16 years ago it was just a smooth sandy hill in that area, and the steeper part at the bottom was the fun part. Looks doable though, although I know things in person always look different than pics. Anyone else been out there more recently?

I just asked a friend that is in the know,
His response was this.
"I remember seeing photos of someone that just did it in a JK"
My Response.
"Got someone in my JK group that is asking, figured you may know"
His Response.
"Well if a JK did it then its cake..lol"

And the lower section:
And the very last drop, that is normally off-camber with big holes, was as smooth as a highway. And the boulders in the lower canyon had all been pushed off to the side.
We also did lower Coyote Canyon and found that it had been smoothed out as well. Even the rock hill had all the rocks placed where it was super smooth.
Since nothing was that picture worthy, I had to do some poser shots.
I actually enjoyed the short trail up to the Calcite Mine the best. Sorry, no pics. At least it was actually a 4X4 trail.
And probably the biggest highlight of the trip was getting to see 9 bighorn sheep in Borrego Palm Canyon while hiking.
I've seen them before up there, but these ended up being the best wildlife shots I've ever taken, so I was pretty excited.
