Default Differential Fluid Change Out

I recently enjoyed a bit too much mud and well, I sucked dirt and water into my differentials, which I didn't even know was possible. I thought I had an oil leak and come to find out that the evap hose from the front differential was the culprit. The fluid is a nice grey color and so the dealer advised an immediate changing of the oil.

I have no idea how to do this, but I am looking to have some help as the dealer wants 440 for the front and rear

I would be more than willing to pay for assistance

Please help -

WHAT? Did he keep a straight face when he told you that or was he already behind you unzipping his pants That is close to $350 in labour. Oh and by the way it doesnt need to be IMMEDIATE, just get it done. Does the dealer think that as soon as it is noticed there is some sort of internal "blow up your diff" clock going?

Let me know if you still need help after reviewing the write up. It's actually pretty simple and straightforward, but being located in Irvine I can give you a hand if you need it.

Two suggestions... use this as an opportunity to get some synthetic fluids in your diffs. Royal Purple, Mobil 1, etc. Second, you can avoid future problems by replacing your diff breather lines with longer hoses. It's an easy job, and won't cost much at all. I believe there's a write-up somewhere here on the forum, but feel free to send me a PM if you need any help.

I will take you up on the help for sure. I don't have any tools, nor do I have a drain pan, nor do I have the knowledge on how to pull off the cover so I can clean this thing.

To all: Would anyone agree that I should remove the entire cover and clean with brake cleaner and replace the cover and refill with synthetic? What synthetic would you all recommend.

Thanks

I'd recommend Royal Purple!
