Terrible news. Two men from the OC died in a Jeep rollover on the Freeway Ridge Trail.

while this news is tragic, i have to say that i simply do not understand the logic of not wearing your seat belts when wheeling.
agreed, looking at the pics, the jeep looked like it faired pretty well. had the occupants been wearing their restraints, they would not have been ejected from the vehicle - clearly the reason for their death.

Thats just horrible. I always wear my belt when in the Jeep on or off road. I agree the two men should of walked away if they use the proper safety restraints. My prayers go out to the family's.
When I was younger, I thought I could jump out to clear the vehicle before it rolled. Now I stop to think and I fear that is what this two gentlemen did...
Prayer's to there families for there lose

To put things in perspective, turn a football field on end, then jump from about the place the NFL kicks off and free fall to the other goal line.

I've been a law enforcement officer for 22 years. It's anyone's guess, but it's my opinion these guys would probably have been critically injured or killed even with seat belts. The amount of energy in the bouncing, possible closed head trauma, potential for spinal injury (lateral and vertical loading) and even injuries such as aortal tears are very high in an accident of this nature.
Having said that, I've never seen use of a seat belt contribute to or result in a motorist's death, so wearing them will only protect you in virtually all circumstances.
Sad story. -RIP-
