locked gates?
Any of you guys run into locked gates on your way OUT? Yesterday me and a buddy drove "wildhorse meadows road" from down by Cienega Seca Creek off the 38 south of Big Bear north to where it comes back out on 38 close to Sugarloaf, then we headed south up 2NO8 off Knickerbocker Road and made a big loop southwest towards the "Champion Lodgepole Pine" (which is still snowed in and you can't reach it) and then tried to exit coming down Mill Creek Road, when we ran into a locked gate!
We wound up taking 2N10 and 2N17 and 2N08 back east to Knickerbocker Road and got back out.
Any of you guys ever carry some large bolt cutters or a hacksaw or something to cut a link off a chain and get OUT?
Just wondering.

Thanks for the reply. It was a different gate coming out, and I said it was Sun., it actually was last Sat. Both of us in the Jeep figured we could use a strap to pull the gate down but really hated to do that.
Just go around it u have a jeep man lol..i have done this a couple times when i go hunting with my dad the dam guy that owns a farm there he doesn't like people passing by so if its not open then we just go around most of them

If you come up to a locked gate, don't cut the lock or try to go around. More than likely it's private property and you shouldn't be there. If you reach a locked gate at the end of a long trail, I know it can be a pain but, you probably should turn around and head back out the way you came. We are rapidly running out of legal places to wheel and driving on someone else's private property doesn't help our cause.
I've loaded a slug into my 12ga and blew few locks to leave areas. I always dummy lock it back though so it's not wide open. Normally it's they've just forgot I was back there. I'm on close standing with my Game Wardens.

That would be a good question on who actually locked that gate. Tree huggin Earth cookies have been known to lock the gates as well and you chat up ranger about it, then the lock gets cut by them. Could of been the land owner who locked that gate.
Please remember we represent every off roader when damaging trails and property in our jeeps. It gives us all a bad rep and causes more closures.
If you get locked on a legal trail, call the local authorities if you have cell reception, bet they can help you if you don't mind waiting.
Tread lightly for all our sake.
