Best advice!
Trails keep closing every day and when we drive around locked gates damage is done and the net result is "all" of us get lumped into the same category as the dumb ass who damaged the property. Help keep our trails open by taking the advice described by Moochie and BigLow and MAYBE our kids will get to enjoy that same great trails we do.

From what you said, you could see the street but couldn't go around the gate. I guess an option would be to cut the chain and then use your own lock to put it back together. Put your name and a phone number on the lock so they can contact you. That way whoever locked it could still unlock and it would be locked for everyone else. I would agree that not damaging property is the best bet and second best is to do damage that is easily repaired and leave your identity so you can be responsible for it. The bad rap for off-roaders comes from people damaging things and then not owning up and being responsible.

Two options are if you must get thrugh are lifting the gate hing side sometimes people dont reverse the top hing and lifting it up off the hing pin. option two is the top hing is bolted to the gate you should carry some tools so just loosen the bolt on the top hing open the gate in reverse drive though return the gate and no property is damaged . hope that helps

Thanks for replies gents. As I noted I did turn around and did find another way out. I was wondering how you guys handled such situations; it sounds like some of you guys have removed some gates but as I suspected it isn't advisable, even if whoever locked the gate had no right to lock it.
Thanks again.
