Must-do trails between Tucson, AZ and SF, CA?
Yeah, that author has some great books, the only problem in the binding. After some trail use, it tends to come apart. I suggest you buy it off of his website where he offers spiral binding.

It looks like i may go after all. However due to time restraints I will be heading up with EDM95001 at the "Butt crack of dawn". and we'll have to leave early. We'll try to meet up with you guys at some point.
If anyone else wants to go up early also, just let me know and we can hook up also......

Actually, you are thinking of the Charles Wells book, "Guide to Southern California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails", which is great, but yes it does fall apart the instant you open it (wish i had known about the sprial ring version....). But that is a different book than the "Backcountry Adventures Southern California" book that I recommended. The reason i recommended that one was that it is far more detailed on the actual descriptions/histories of the trails it covers and because it focuses more on the average 4x4 trail rather than the Wells book which gets into the more challenging stuff but is a lot less detailed. Both books are definitely worth having, IMHO.
You mean you've never met Mister "Butt Crack of Dawn" CLACKEY573(_!_)?? Just an old inside joke about CLACKEY'S obsession with waking up at ungodly hours...

Especially when you stop to take lots of pictures.

I guess you could call me "Buttcrack of dawn jr." I love hitting the road before the sun. That way, you can beat most of the crowds (depending on where you are going) and have more time to enjoy whatever it is that you are going to.
Hey back on track this thread is about trails between Az and SF. Although both of the quotes were about trails in Ca. so I guess in theory it is technically not hijacking this thread.......Main road divide that runs the Santa Ana mountains and Rowher Flats. Both of which are a nice day trip. Of course you can have more time to enjoy them if you get there at "THE BUTT CRACK OF DAWN"!!!
