road trip
Hearst Castle is near Cambria, which has a lot of nice bed and breakfast places. It is also close to Paso Robles, which has a few nice wineries, if you are into wine tasting. The elephant seals are a little north of Hurst Castle in San Simeon. The drive is not too bad, either. It is about 4 hours to drive to Cambria.
I wasnt trying to be nice! I was not sure of the spelling and typed my whole response, spelling it "Hurst" .....I did a Google check and found out it is actually "Hearst"......I changed the first one, but forgot about the second one. I am just a sloppy proof reader!
Morro Bay - All American Seafood, A waterfront restaurant where you watch your fresh fish being cooked over a Mesquite fire. Absolutely incredible at a decent price.
Cambria - Main Street Grill, BBQ grill on the sidewalk out front with some of the best baby back ribs on the West Coast.
I know. I eat therefore I am fat.

If you are going to visit Morro Bay, stay at Morro Bay Inn! Amazing view and quietness! Morro Bay is about a hour south of Hearst Castle, I think?!
I have done the drive up the coast twice and just like everyone, Monterey is a must! Visit Cannery row, Pebble Beach, 17 mile drive and the aquarium. Along the way there is great history found in the Missions that were built by the spanish. Also check out Solvang, it like a Dutch town with a famers maket in the town square and plenty of wines to choose from.
Have Fun!

Ditto on Morro Bay. I believe you can still rent a Kayak and paddle the bay and check out Morro Rock up close. Yosemite is also nice, but probably still too cold and/or too much snow up there to do much moving around...better to save for a warmer trip. But when you DO go, hiking Half Dome is a MUST!
