The original trail. It is non-stop technical rockcrawling from beginning to end, with steep hillclimbs and off-camber sections. Coming back down the canyon as "an experience all its own." It can be run in fullsize vehicles.

Jackhammer
34.41453 -116.47440
Considered by many to be the toughest of the Hammers, it is a string of narrow, off-camber sections that offer no relief until the very top. The rock formations demand tight turns and a lot of finesse. The downhill segment is very steep and replete with dropoffs that score high on the pucker factor. It is not recommended for fullsize vehicles.

Aftershock
34.42280 -116.43548
A more traditional trail in the sense that it is not all rock from the beginning to the end; there are actually sections that run through sand and dirt. However, the rocks that are there force the trail to twist constantly back and forth and up and down. It is a difficult run for fullsize vehicles

Sunbonnet Pass
34.40317 -116.43345
This is actually two narrow canyons that are fully equiped with a series of tight squeezes with names such as "Hell's Gate" and "Devil's Slide." It is not fullsize friendly. Even short-wheelbase vehicles will find that the walls quickly close in. Drivers will find a lot of sharp turns and steep climbs.
Rating: 5
Outer Limits
34.45438 -116.45183
One of the newest trails, this one is replete with twisting, rocky ascents and three very tight, off-camber squeezes that nearly always take their toll in sheetmetal as drivers snake through. This trail is not for fullsize vehicles.
Rating: 5
Wrecking Ball
34.42258 -116.47213
The name says it all. Possibly the toughest trail in the Johnson Valley OHVA, it is certainly the tightest and most technical. All rock from the very start, this trail is unrelenting in its demands of the driver and the vehicle. Body damage is almost a certainty, and probably the least of the carnage you can expect. It is not recomended for fullsize vehicles.

I've looked through this thread and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good trial for camping this weekend. I'm bringing my dad in his jeep but he's a newb to offroading.. me, not so much but I want to give him some rocks to crawl on. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Going to do the Mojave Road next weekend. Will drive to Needles CA Thursday evening. Friday morning will begin the trail from East to West. Will camp Friday and Saturday on the trail and return Sunday.
If anyone is interested in going give me a call.

I am compiling all the waypoints in this thread atm. I have left out some of the track data and am adding in some of my own data. I will have a KML and GPX file available for download very soon. I am trying to make them as complete as possible.
I created a spreadsheet of all the points and push and pulled the points a bit to put them exactly on the map for google maps and earth.
If it is not against the site policy I will also create a google maps page with all of the waypoints as well, and post it up.

Yes, ihikegps and I use this on my iPad with the DUAL GPS BlueTooth module. It connects to my iPad with Bluetooth or iPhone and or other smart phones and computers as well. My iPad is WiFi only so no cell signal or GPS built in. For those don't know almost if not all iPad's and smart phones with GPS built in are stripped down GPS chips. They do not offer all the abilities of a true GPS receiver and rely on the cell service to offset the telemetry. That's why sometimes your smartphone shows you off the road you are actually on. Noting like driving next to a river and your smartphone showing that your driving in the river.
Before going on a trip I download the maps I need from the iHike software free, if available I use the Forrest Service Maps other wise I get the USGS maps. Forrest maps have more details but not always available. I use this more often then my Garmin Oregon 550T and Dual came with an arm band strap so it is portable.
I have it sitting on my dash so it get's satellite reception, and the bluetooth range to the iPad is really good.

Since I don't have my iPad with me I can't show it working with iHike but I have been pretty happy with it so far. Last version of iHike made several improvements.
Since I'm a Mac guy and have been for ever, I also use the MacGPSPro software by the same company that does the iHikeGPS. If you happen to be a boater then they have a version for the water as well.
If you try it I hope it works out for you. The Dual was about $99 when I bought mine so not sure the current price.
