Default Trail Question

Went up the Ortega Highway today and turned off on the Main Divide Road (3S04). Once on the dirt road it goes for 6.7 miles and then a gate is locked and you can’t go any further. There is another road next to the closed one and there is a paper sign that says “Indian Road 5S01”. Where does this Indian Road go to?

On the way back to Riverside on the 15 I saw the “Indian Truck Trail” off ramp and took it just to see if these are the same roads. It took driving around new housing developments for a while but I think I finally found the road but there was a locked gate there!!!
Any tips for that area would be appreciated.

My two boys and I had fun while we were in the dirt. The boys (16, 13) made me take all the short alternate trails just off the main road and that was REAL FUN!

The gate is closed to the top because of the fires up there late last year. That Indian Road you saw is in fact Indian Truck Trail and will take you down past a Christian camp and through a newly developed housing tract and drop you right next to the 15 FWY where you saw Indian Truck Trail.

As you go down Indian Truck Trail from Main Divide Rd, you know you are in Riverside near the end of the trail because you will see all the trash and old water heaters on the side of the trail

Default Is there a better starting point?

Is there a better starting point to head up into that area, like the OC side?

When all the gates are opened back up (Not sure when that is supposed to happen) you can get up to the top via Modjeska Canyon road, but I don't know if its necessarily better or not.

The next time I go up there I will enter at Indian Truck Trail and end on Ortega, unless everything is opened back up, then I will enter Modjeska and end on Ortega or vice versa.

I was up Indian Truck Trail not long ago. Stopped at Tom's Farms for provisions and gave Sandi some shopping time... then up Indian Truck trail to the top... (I wanna say 8-9 miles, about an hour)... right where your gate was. Stopped for lunch, and actually ran into a friend coming the opposite way with his kid. Never see anyone in the city.... but out in the middle of nowhere.... go figure. I then went down Main Divide... a nice ride, though little of a technical nature.

Entering from the bottom of Indian Truck Trail isn't an easy thing, until you know the trick. Since the housing development has started entry isn't obvious.

The trick I figured out was to follow the Korean Christian Camp sign... a little blue bugger just North of the INdian truck Trail offramp. When you find the camp's parking lot, you have found the trail head.

BEWARE O.C. people: Ortega Hwy is being worked on between Main Divide and the 5... with one lane TOTAL (in both directions) and flagmen controlling the flow. You could see significant delay if going this way.

You should post up next time.... if you want some company.

It's fine for a stock rig, nothing technical. There are a few play areas off Main Divide if you want to have some off camber fun or try a steep hill climb.

Bored today, so I ran up ITT, then half way up Santiago Peak before having to head home. Nothing technical but got to play in a little mud left over from yesterday's rain. All in all a scenic, fun little trek!!
