Wheeling around Banning/Idylwild
I have an RV resport membership at the top of the mountain outside of Banning (Silent Valley) along highway 243 between Banning and Idylwild. The terrain looks ripe for some hard core wheeling, but I don't know of any trails around there. The RV resort would bew a great place to set up camp, I just need some trails!
Anyone have any suggestions? No fire roads, I need a challenge.

You can try the sawmil trail its off hwy 74. It has a few good challenges, we had a stock cherokee with us that made it, but we had to strap it a few times. From Idlywild it would be on your right side just before you start down the hill into Palm Desert.

I've been curious about doin' some wheelin' up in Idylwild myself!
I just don't know if there are any trails up there & if so, what they're rated in difficulty.
If anybody knows, can you please post?
Thanks!!!

that would be fun for the family runs, but I need something challenging for my group. They will kick me out if I take them on something easy like that.
How hard is it to blaze your own trails? You need a permit or somehting?

Uh...in California it is illegal to "blaze your own trails". Unfortunately I don't think there is too much up there. You may need to look in another area if you want a challenge. Try the Guide to Southern California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails by Charles A. Wells. That should give you a good idea on where to find some trails.
Been all over, from the Hammers to Calico to Cougar Buttes to all over Big Bear. Check out out Website in my sig. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of trails right there.

Bee Canyon to Pine Cove but I would do it backwards
And here is the GPS waypoints backwards, just plug them into Google Earth
The trail will close in november and its rated 2 with stream crossings
Also look up into some of the canyons on your way some have rocks
