Beasley Trail Run - October
Just checking in. Everybody still going? Also I was working at Durhamtown Plantation this weekend, and overheard the owner talking about opening up a new riding area for Jeeps and such. He has a total of 23,000 acres which 8,000 of it is Durhamtown and the rest is in the next county over, 15,000 acres should make some good trails. Especially if they put in to it what they put into the ATV and MX trails. I'll try to keep everybody posted, but it's hush hush right now!

I'm still in and looking forward to it. It happens that the weekend we're going works out, because my wife is in Virginia visiting family so there are no conflicts. But, I'm with you on the rain.
i had a little trouble getting up one hill because it was really muddy... in fact, i had to back down it b/c i didnt have a winch at the time. I made it up to the rock at the top, but could not get enough momentum or traction to get over it... so yes... rain sucks
plus, the trail is kinda rutted in places and the water pools in the valleys so when you crest the hill, you go straight into a mud puddle and often drift/slide sideways towards the trees. Kinda scary, but the trick (usually, depending on depth and thickness) is to approach from the outside (tree side) of the trail and cut across diagnally to the inside with a little bit of throttle. DO NOT STOP IN THE RUTS if you can help it... i did once and slid about 2.5' towards the trees and thankfully, there was a rock (or something) in the mud that stopped my tire. I was about 3 inches from a good size tree that wanted to smash my fender.

yeah if it rains it sucks... bad. Bad enough that the park service will actually close the park if they feel its to much rain. Beasley is ALOT of hill clmbs and its just dry dirt, no plants on the trail so nothing to hold the dirt so during a rain it becomes slick mud. If it starts to rain and ur there you better get out quick or get out the winch control and tree saver
At the risk of hijacking this thread...
I'm considering going to Amicola Falls the week before (assuming I can find it). If no one else wants to go is it tame enough to do on my own -- considering I have a winch.
