yeah...I'm going to a different computer with a better tune, and 35 lbs injectors. I knew I was on borrowed time with this motor, but after I rebuild it, its going to be right. I'm not doing this job twice because I was lazy. Need to get a front mount on this car

Default Dusty Lonesome

Yup - can't say you weren't warned, but nice to have some more local feedback on what a dump that place is. Unfortunately that dust will be with you for a long time Monty. Every time I remove something from Wilbur, I find evidence of Stony Lonesome coating every nook and cranny (last incidence was my battery tray when I installed the DieHard).

I was able to flex it out alot more with the discos off. I did not got on the ones that said Jeeps for fear of the swaybar hitting the tires in the front. I think wheel spacers may help that problem.

I am glad it was free I would not been to happy if I would have had to pay for it. A little bit longer they may have it worked out.

Hope this means you have your Hemi, or it's on the way.

My plan is to unbolt anything that I think I can give away or sell, and then probably just drop the short block off at a local scrap yard. If you want the short block, you can have it. Might make a good base for a coffee table. Just buy a piece of glass and put it on top of it.

When I seperated the engine, there was quite a bit of oil in the bellhousing. Seems like it had a rear main seal leak, but this was not apparent because of the lack of oil under the Heep or on the ground. I just thought it was burning a little oil, as I had to top the oil off every once in a while. Or maybe it has a crack in the block somewhere. Not sure yet.

Hemi should be here late next week. Can't wait.

I am currently at the "Holy Crap, look at what I have done" phase. Gutted engine compartment. Transmission /Transfer Case is next. Then comes the cutting / welding for the motor / transmission mounts. A few plumbing tasks, and a little tweaking here and there in preparation of the swap. Progress has been slow, but I am working on it and the weather is now good for working in the garage, so I am making progress.

Stay tuned boys and girls. Same Heep time. Same Heep channel.

I didn't have any oil on the ground or notice any smoke from the exhaust so I guess I've got one more thing to watch out for. By the way, I've got 53K miles on my jeep.
Yea, that's where I was at. "Using" about a quart every oil change. According to posts on here of people that asked the stealership about this, they all got the same response: "This is acceptable oil consumption". I used to accept this, and just realize that I was going to have to keep adding oil. Now ........ BS .........

If I remember correctly, there is an access plate between the oil pan and the bell housing, where you might be able to see if your main seal is leaking. Can't really see the seal, but you can see the flex plate and part of the torque converter (for us automatic guys). You may have to drop the oil pan to get the access plate off, though. I can't really remember right now. I will look at it again tonight.

BTW: I am not trying to freak any of you guys out. These are all merely initial impressions. Nothing conclusive as to what the failure was due to. I am not a professional. Please do not try this at home (Or at least I hope none of you have to).

You should be able to take the inspection plate off without dropping the pan. It only makes logical sense. I believe us manual guys also have an inspection plate as well.
