Yup - can't say you weren't warned, but nice to have some more local feedback on what a dump that place is. Unfortunately that dust will be with you for a long time Monty. Every time I remove something from Wilbur, I find evidence of Stony Lonesome coating every nook and cranny (last incidence was my battery tray when I installed the DieHard).
Stony Lonesome was ok. Made it there about 1:00 rode till about 4. It was a big dust bowl. It would be better if it rained or snowed. Most of the trails where for 4-wheelers [ and Horses ].
I was able to flex it out alot more with the discos off. I did not got on the ones that said Jeeps for fear of the swaybar hitting the tires in the front. I think wheel spacers may help that problem.
I am glad it was free I would not been to happy if I would have had to pay for it. A little bit longer they may have it worked out.

When I seperated the engine, there was quite a bit of oil in the bellhousing. Seems like it had a rear main seal leak, but this was not apparent because of the lack of oil under the Heep or on the ground. I just thought it was burning a little oil, as I had to top the oil off every once in a while. Or maybe it has a crack in the block somewhere. Not sure yet.
Hemi should be here late next week. Can't wait.
I am currently at the "Holy Crap, look at what I have done" phase. Gutted engine compartment. Transmission /Transfer Case is next. Then comes the cutting / welding for the motor / transmission mounts. A few plumbing tasks, and a little tweaking here and there in preparation of the swap. Progress has been slow, but I am working on it and the weather is now good for working in the garage, so I am making progress.
Stay tuned boys and girls. Same Heep time. Same Heep channel.

Well now you've got me wondering. I had to add a quart a while back after about 4k miles on the oil change. I've seen so many posts about JKs burning oil and dealerships saying it's normal that I didn't think too much about it. I didn't have any oil on the ground or notice any smoke from the exhaust so I guess I've got one more thing to watch out for. By the way, I've got 53K miles on my jeep.
If I remember correctly, there is an access plate between the oil pan and the bell housing, where you might be able to see if your main seal is leaking. Can't really see the seal, but you can see the flex plate and part of the torque converter (for us automatic guys). You may have to drop the oil pan to get the access plate off, though. I can't really remember right now. I will look at it again tonight.
BTW: I am not trying to freak any of you guys out. These are all merely initial impressions. Nothing conclusive as to what the failure was due to. I am not a professional. Please do not try this at home (Or at least I hope none of you have to).

Yea, that's where I was at. "Using" about a quart every oil change. According to posts on here of people that asked the stealership about this, they all got the same response: "This is acceptable oil consumption". I used to accept this, and just realize that I was going to have to keep adding oil. Now ........ BS .........
