I pulled mine because I wanted to be thorough and clean the inside out with brake cleaner. I also wanted to inspect the teeth and make sure everything looked good. There's not a big need to do this, but I figured it'd be fun this time.

As for the oil you mentioned, I'm no expert but what I've read says you dont need 140 unless you are doing a lit if towing. I could be wrong though. I also read that Royal Purple and other "boutique brands" are unnecessary. Brands like Valvoline are just fine and considerably cheaper. Again, this is going off other threads I've come across.

I ran Royal Purple in my diffs for 2 yrs. I just changed to Lucas and my rear Detroit is alot quieter. Less than half the price of RP. I think RP is a buncha hype.

I'm currently running RP 75W-90 (got a great deal from one of the forum sponsors, otherwise I'd might go with the cheaper stuff too). Like Eric stated, wouldn't think one would need to typically go with 75W-140.

Default B.A.S.E. Jumping

Thought this was interesting out in Moab. Saw this guy's buddy jump off a cliff just minutes before this guy did so had the camera ready to go.

Here he is just as his chute is deploying.

Here is the cliff he and his buddy jumped off - the black arrow indicates his "launch" point. They were both down in a couple of minutes. We meet them down at the bottom next to the trail (Cliffhanger), and chatted to them briefly. If I remember correctly (GA guys help me here), they had spent the whole previous day climbing and positioning their gear for the jump, then spent the entire morning (several hours) climbing back up to the top in order to make the jump. When we saw them, they were headed back up to collect all their climbing gear. I may be mistaken about the morning climb as they may have spent the night up on top - can't remember. I do know that they said the only way to the top was by climbing, and I'm not talking about hiking up a trial, but scaling the cliff using ropes, biners, harnesses, nuts, hexes, tricams, etc.

Bet you wouldn't be saying that if it only cost $5 a quart.

But you guys are right, I sure wouldn't pay $18 per quart size bottle that the local FLAPS charge.

P.S. - I second or third opening the diff to both check things out and clean the inner workings with brake cleaner.

Well the verdict is in. I have a bad trans seal. Of course they didn't have one in stock and had to order one but the dealer is top notch.
