Off-roading near Ashville NC
In a couple of weeks, I'll be spending a weekend about 25 miles west of Asheville, NC.
Any of you guys from the area?
Do you know of any fire roads, forestry roads, cool places to off-road within an hour or two?
I'll be in a stock 4-door, so no class 5 stuff.
I'd appreciate any help in finding somewhere to explore while I'm there.
Thanks.

Hurricane Creek Rd
Thanks Johnny,
You're the second person to recommend Hurricane Creek.
That's now my official goal.
I'll be near Waynesville, NC with two full days free. - 13-14 July.
Anybody want to meet up and ride the trail?
I'm with a group of three families and only one Jeep so we'll see how many want to ride with me (if any).
Not knowing the area, never having run the road, having a "trail guide" would be great.
Stock 4-door JK so this road looks just the thing.
Hope to meet up with some of you.

Hurricane Creek would be great for you. Most of the obstacles that are difficult are optional. Be careful, some of the mud holes that seem simple can be misleading. You should at least have minimal recovery gear.
I will be busy both days so I won't be able to make the run with you.

In case any of you are interested, we're planning to run Hurricane Creek Rd on Saturday 13 July.
A couple of guys from the area are hoping to meet with us so we're looking forward to a fun group.
It's definitely not a rough trail. Stock JK will run it just fine. Part of the route is even paved.
Just a nice scenic run through the woods on a lovely (we hope) summer day.
Actually, the weather forecast is for thunderstorms all weekend, but we'll go anyway unless it's a hurricane. Ha.
Tentative plan is to meet at I-40 Exit 24 (Crabtree Rd) just north of Waynesville.
Haven't set a time yet.
Hope some of you can join us.
The more the merrier.

I may be up for this. 3 hour drive. How long is the trail? Driving 6 hours round trip for a 1-2 hour ride wouldn't be worth it but if it's longer I'm down. Also is anyone coming from TN we could meet around Johnson City.

I'm about an hour from you in Virginia. There is a really awesome park in Kentucky, Black Mountain Off Road Park, I attend frequently. Really really nice, spark plug came over a couple times last year, and think it only took him about an hour and a half. I'd be happy to go with you anytime. Just send me a PM
