Default What's that clunk?

Okay.. I have a clunk. It's very noticible and getting worse. I am by no means mechanically inclined and have no tools, so I am just trying to get ideas for this weekend when I will have someone who is mechanically inclined and has tools to help me.

This clunk started before we went to Hardrock/ONF, so it's not directly related to the trip. It did, however, get louder and more frequent during the trip. When I did the lift (in my garage) nothing was torqued properly. This is definately #1 on my list to try. This weekend we will be checking all of the bolts and re-torquing them properly.

It seems to be coming from the front driver side where the spring is. I do not think there is any way it's coming from the steering column. It usually does it on bumps, but not always. It sometimes does it while turning or going straight and I can feel it in the gas pedal. It does it in 4WD and 2WD and with or without giving it gas. Sometimes it's a quiet clicking clunk and sometimes it's a loud clunk. It's inconsistant, but getting to be very frequent. I have not noticed it while going fast.

I have NO wobble whatsoever. It goes completely straight on the highway at 65 with my hands off the steering wheel. It drives completely smooth other than the noise and the slight movement of the gas pedal.

I had numerous people look at every part under my Jeep at Hardrock and ONF and everyone said it all looks good

Any ideas?

I'll try find a picture, but see if that sleeve thing moved again. The one that is on the center of the axel, between the housing and the c-gusset.

Have you checked the torque spec on your lower trackbar bolt? A slightly loose trackbar will make a clunk similiar to what you have desribed.

I have the TF Coil lift with the shocks. No spacers.

Here you go.

See if you have a space on the drivers side between the plastic part (arrow) and the axel (away from wheel).

Yeah, I had a clunk after I put my lift on. Turned out to be the TB bolt had come loose. If you don't have a torque wrench get a big ratchet and a cheater bar. You have to really hual on it.

I know she does. I looked at that myself. There is about a 1/2" gap between the C and the black plastic ring.
