It's easiest for me to build a prototype, so pics will be up first.

I've been thinking about this and I'm ending up with some questions for the group.

Each step will attach with four 5/16" bolts. They will be removable. This given, which is more important to you?
- Clearance; a step that will not get hung up on rocks etc?
- Use as a Step; a step that is practical for use as a step.

considering it's removable, I would think the importance would be the use as a step. take them off when you're on the trail.

Me too. I'm only 5'3"-5'4" depending on which 7-11 I'm exiting. It's a real showstopper watching me climb aboard in a skirt and high heeled boots. Need the step for daily driving & pubic decency.

Mother & Mother-In-Law can't get in either. Hmmm, wait a minute, that may not be such a bad thing.

I'd like the rock clearance personally...but I'm 6'3". Perhaps make it invertable at installation? Is that possible for your design in mind? But since it's removable, I suppose I'd still get it as a step for sure.

Woods,

Wood (pun intended) this be a bolt on deal or will drilling into the rail be required? I was just picturing steps that kinda clamp onto the rail.
