Thumbs up OR-Fab NEW Rear Corner Armor

Hey Folks,

I'm looking for input on our Rear Corner Armor. In Moab folks are going to see 3 versions we are testing. I only have pictures of the corner armor that is on my jeep, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what we are doing. EVERYTHING is in the prototyping stage so we have a lot of room to play with good ideas... BoneDoc helped us develop a great rear bumper idea... I'm hoping more folks can assist with the corner armor.

We have two light kit options we are considering. On mine you can see the oblong version, we also are testing out a round version. The Green JK going to Moab will have the round version. Aside from that we are considering a couple of different options.

1) Licenses Plate Bracket
2) Slider Bar

The licenses plate bracket is self explanatory. Good idea or not?

The slider bar would be a 1 1/2" .120 wall DOM tube extending out from the body about 3 1/2 inches and will be constructed just like a rock slider. The length of this slider bar is about 35 1/2". Hells Revenge has a couple of good obstacles which we know are good play grounds for testing this gear. My question is... do many people want this extra protection?

Thanks in advance for everyone who participates with input in this design.

Yates

Wow those looks awesome! I am interested in seeing pics of the other proto types too along with the round lights. Would I have to remove any part of my OR-Fab Tire/Jerry can carrier for install? More details on construction would also be appreciated. Material thickness/weight...price point? Great Job

My bigest thing wit this armor is I don't want to cut that area. Drilling is fine and maybe even a little trim but some of the cutting I've seen these require from other companies is a deal breaker for me and I'm sure others.

I've already given you my thoughts on the license plate bracket, but here are some more thoughts of mine. I have seen plenty of round tail lights, but I like the oblong lights you have on your JK. The plus would be that they are easily available to purchase if they do get busted. I also like the option of a slider bar on the corners although that is not something I probably need, but would certainly consider if the price difference with vs with out was reasonable.

I like the corner guards -- especially if they're set at a better price point than the competitors which seem to be really high....I don't care for the oval-style light cut-outs....I like round better...just my .02 though, I'm sure the finished product will rock.

I love the idea of a slider above the fender.

Default Nice

-License plate bracket, indifferent on that, doesn't matter
-I really like the oblong lights, I think maybe because of the clear LED ring, but these are nice.
-The slider bar: Personally I like, because I run practically no flare anyway and would purchase it with slider. However I think it may need to be an additional cost option as most people would not want that.

Very sweet pieces of kit you guys are developing

Great question! It will tie in nicely with your tire carrier. You will have to remove the landing block on the driver side and reinstall (holes will be pre-cut). The plate steel on the proto-types is 10 guage. Since the JK corners like a donut, we have had to develop guards with layers and gussets so that it molds to the JK body. The tube will be 1 1/2 DOM .120 wall, about 35" long. The 2dr and 4dr slider bar are the same, so I've asked for a photo so I can post this shortly.

Don't know about price point yet. We are pretty certain we can make these very affordable.

It's almost like I pimped you for this reply (WHICH I DID NOT!!!). We are with you on having to cut out sheet metal from your jeep. Similar to JK Mikey's response, we are making these to fit your JK with out cutting, they are not what most have seen being simple plate design. These are actually engineered to mold to the JK body. You will have to drill for the nutserts, and in some spots they are through bolted.

I like the oblong as well. I'm hoping to get a post of the round ones, but to me they kinda look "throw-back". With that said... I'm 49 and our R&D guys average age is probably 32 and they like round.

The corner guards with lights are going to be sold as kits. Replacement lights will absolutely be available.

Thanks Sam! Quick question... Do you fall into the early 30s age bracket?

Thanks for all the input! We are taking notes and the R&D folks love it.

I'm actually mid 20's age bracket....don't get me wrong...the oval shape is ok -- but there might be a reason most of the other brands are going round....maybe I just haven't seen enough oval-shaped out there on rigs to determine a better opinion....I do have a pretty good eye for fine details and matching things up....I think the reason I like the round better is because it ties in with the most of the rest of the stock lights on a Jeep...unique, round headlights...round parking lights on the side of the fenders, round fog-lights....so aside from sticking with a square cutout I think the round would look the best.....again, just my .02

You think the R&D guys are discriminating against us 40+ people. May have to file a complaint with AARP.
