New JK Headlights
I've used the IPF lenses and the IPF Majic Bulbs on my 94XJ since they came out in 96, and have loved them. I think in all that time, I've only had to replave the bulbs about 3 times. I also installed the IPF wiring harness, and it was an improvement also. So well in fact that when the wife saw mine one night she had to have a set her her XJ also.
Is this set-up going to be along the same lines?

Glad to see you working on this, David. But, in your pic I see a hint of blue in the new bulb. Is that an artifact, or real? 4400K is slightly up the color temperature scale from stock bulbs (4100-4300K). These aren't the kind of bulbs that appear blue from a distance, then become white as you get closer, are they? Personally, I hate kiddie-car blue headlights (and they're technically illegal in some states).
Dave asked me to answer a couple of questions about the new Lamp Kits we've made for him.
1. They are indeed E Coded IPF JK Specific H4 Housings. The older TJ types don't fit the JK.
2. It is plug and play. You'll need to loosen up your grill piece (plastic rivets pop off the top, then you can install the new housings with 4 little torx screws). It takes maybe 30 mins all told.
3. You get 2 new E coded housings, 2 wiring looms to go from H13 to H4 and a set of IPF XT42 bulbs in the kit.
4. On the bulbs, the XT42 is a great bulb and about as bright as you can go in the JK without causing the computer to have a heart attack. It pulls 60/55W but the throw is in the 130/120W range. I'm not an engineer and can't tell you exactly how they do this, but it's a combination of gas in the bulb and wiring configurations that make it work so much better than the stock bulbs. I can't speak to the Hella set but they claim similar results. Just check the bulb they're selling before you buy... it may just be a 60/55 H4. That's what came in the old TJ btw, and we all know how well those worked
Many of you have used our Magic Bulb set up in the past on your TJ/XJ etc...think of this as the JK version on steroids. The new XT42 is twice the bulb the old Magic C42 was and like the magic, will drop right into your car without totally rewiring the rig. We have looked into a full harness to run our Fat Boy's on the JK but the computer doesn't want to run them because they draw too much. We've looked into a harness to make it work and the costs are substantial. Probably in the $150 range for the loom and you'll need a ProCal from AEV to tell the computer it's ok to run it to boot. That's $300 and change plus the bulbs and the housings. We may do it at some point.... but for now we're really happy with the lumens we're getting from this set up and we're REALLY happy with the price point.
Good luck and enjoy!

What I would really like to see is what it looks like from inside the cab, looking out from the drivers seat.....ie, two pics, stock vs mod. I know that would help a great deal in making up my mind before shelling out $2 bills for headlights. I say $200. because even though David said $179.95 shipped, I know he wasn't talking to me up here in Alaska.......
