New JK Headlights
Im a little bit confused... They are made by IPF or ARB? Or are they the same company??
Im loving the idea of upgrading the lights, and it seems the price is right.
I really like ARB's stuff and if it is in fact the same company, Ill order them as soon as they become available.

The stern solution and the rallylights solution use a couple of relays triggered by your stock harness. Plug and play, wiring much heavier. You plug the right headlight plug from the stock harness into the new harness and connect the new harness to the battery and run the new harness to the lamps. Pretty simple really. Although a more expensive solution, me likey the heavier wiring, and the bypassing of the crappy stock wiring.
Judging from the wires in the new harness you should be able to run pretty much any bulb you want when you replace the harness.
Seems like this kit allows you to run some H4 bulbs from the stock harness (with a connector change) and of course installing a new lamp.
I think I paid about $200 for the rallylights solution, this included 2 Hella lamps, 2 Hella bulbs and the pre made harness.

I'm interested, but would need to see just how much better they are than my upgraded (Phillips extreme) bulbs that I have now. They aren't too bad now that I've adjusted the beam height. I must admit that it's a compromise between high and low beam. When the low are low enough to work the highs seem wrong and vice versa. Mike
4. On the bulbs, the XT42 is a great bulb and about as bright as you can go in the JK without causing the computer to have a heart attack. It pulls 60/55W but the throw is in the 130/120W range. I'm not an engineer and can't tell you exactly how they do this, but it's a combination of gas in the bulb and wiring configurations that make it work so much better than the stock bulbs.
Take a bulb, hook it up to a 14V power supply and measure the current draw. Take that number times the 14V you put into the bulb and you will have the wattage of the bulb. Thats all there is to wattage, no ifs, ands, or buts!
Now......with regards to the materials and gasses used to make the bulbs. Like you mentioned, this is where the difference is made. You can change filaments and gasses in the bulb to make them more efficient.......ie produce more LUMENS while drawing less current. Therefor using more efficient materials, you can theoretically increase the Lumens out while keeping the same current draw on electrical system.
Back to the kit.........regardless of the bulbs you install, they will be light years ahead of the junk that Jeep installed from the factory. The biggest problem with the JK headlights is that the reflector bucket is pure crap. Once that is addressed by replacing them with either IPF, Hella, or Cibie E-code H4 buckets, the rest is just icing on the cake.
I think you guys are putting together a nice economical solution the problem. Its not the BEST solution, but for the price you guys are asking.........it can't be beat.
