Question [Q] Differential Oil Change on the Rubicon, need additive?

I'm due for differential oil Change (it's completely black...) and the dealers wants $140-$180 for one axle!

I honesty feel it's overpriced... so I am tempted to do it myself.
Following Wayoflife Differential Fluid Change Write-Up, I can buy 3 quarts (3Liter) of Quaker State 75w-140 synthetic gear oil, for only $66.

I have Unlimited Rubicon With towing package.
Do I need to add an additive to the SAE 75w-140 oil? or that is needed only for non Rubicons Dana 44 with limited slip?

Thanks.

You do not need the additive.

Checkout Amsoil too. You can order most stuff off of the Internet, although you can also go each company's website and look for a dealer close to you.

Do it. It's easy. If you want to make it real easy, pick up some Lube Lockers and you won't have to mess with the RTV gasket maker.

You don't need to remove your covers to change the gear oil! Use the drain and fill plugs.

True, its not required. I usually do just to check the gears and give everthing a look-see. The lubelockers make it quick and easy.

Any gear oil of the correct weight will do your Jeep good. Expensive stuff isn't necessary because they don't see combustion or super high heat.
