Default 07' Wrangler 3.8 Engine Burning Oil

I recently changed the oil in my engine and after 1,000 miles, I noticed my oil pressure was low and the dip stick was below the spec level. I topped it off after adding two quarts. I only have 45,000 miles on the Jeep/Engine. Anyone else experiencing an issue with their motor burning oil?

That sounds normal. Chrysler says if it burns 1 qt. within 1,000 miles it's normal. Just keep an eye on the dipstick.

Yep mine burns about a quart every 1,000 miles or so with 5w-20. I've heard/read on this forum that swapping to 5w-30 your oil consumption will go down. I am going to change my oil this week and swap it to 5w-30!

Mine is a 2007 JKU with 40,000 miles.

From what I read on here, it unfortunately sounds like you are right at the mileage where the oil burning motors will experience failures.

Two quarts in 1K miles is not right. I'm not sure what I would do in your case. Perhaps contact a dealer, and see if they are willing to work with Chrysler on a replacement?

Good luck getting Chrysler to help out. I just put a new engine in my 07 with only 60k. If Chrysler does offer anything keep track of names and numbers there are a few others in your shoes that could use some help.

New engine due to the oil consumption issue or other causes?

Two quarts low shouldn't make the oil pressure light come on. Low oil pressure indicates other problems.

It was consuming plenty of oil but then the head gasket started leaking. Just seemed smarter to replace the engine than mess with fixing the head gasket and still have an oil burner.

Makes sense. I better start saving my pennies for a hemi.
