Default 10,000 miles between oil changes?

Would you feel comfortable going 10,000 miles between oil change intervals?

Right now, I have my engine oil changed at the dealership for $32-ish. If I could go 10,000 miles between oil changes this would be very cost effective!

Changing your oil yourself at 5,000 miles would be even more cost effective.

I change mine every 5k (cheap insurance) - even though the recommended service schedule is every 10k

I am on the same schedule with Royal Purple Full Synthetic. I change the filter at the half way point and top off. Full Synthetic in the axles, transfer case, transmission, and engine is the only way to go!

Wow, I must be old school... I still change my oil every 3k like clockwork, with a tire rotation. I always have on every vehicle I've owned. I couldn't imagine going 10k on anything but a tractor trailer. But I'm stubborn.

I change my oil and rotate my tires every 3,000 miles. Cheap insurance. most of the people advocating longer oil change intervals are the tree huggers/enviromentalists. No offense to trees, but ill stick with my old fashioned thinking and do my regular oil change. I actually enjoy doing it.

I'm sure 5k is fine and I probably wouldn't worry too much if I HAD to go 5,000 rounds for my next oil change. But I feel better at 3, and it's not going to hurt.
You could probably go weeks between brushing your teeth, but would ya?

P.s. It's good to see I'm not the only one stuck in the 3,000 mile state of mind.

I agreee. And that is why I change my own every 5K miles and just use a blended oil instead of the more expensive synthetics.
