I'm looking to order new tires for my stock JK. I'm keeping the steel wheels and wondered if I can run 255/70 or 255/75. Will the 255 be too big? Don't want to order tires and they end up not working. Click image for larger version

Yes you can. A 255 70 16 will work, as well as a 265 70 16, 265 75 16, 255 85 16, etc. I think on the factory 16x7 wheels a 265 is the max "recommended width" although plenty of people have gone wider with no ill affects. None of the sizes I listed are "too big" with maybe the exception of the 255 85 16, which will be significantly taller.

I've got 265s on mine, fits perfect. That was the largest size my local Discount Tire would mount on that rim.

I have a question please… I have 225/75/16’s on my JK, and just bought some 17” rims. If I put 265/70/17’s, will they rub? I’d like to make my jeep a little taller without doing a lift.
