Default 2010 JKU Brake Clunk??

Hi All,

Posting from AUS here, just got a brand new 2010 JK unlimited Petrol Auto.

400kms on the clock (250miles), driving home from work yesterday I noticed a clunk noise when applying the Brake. It seems to be coming from under the car but it's hard to pinpoint the origin. It happens at any speed, last night I went for a cruise around the local area, even at very slow speeds 15ks per hour (9miles per hour) I depress the brake pedal very slowly and at the point where it engages it clunks. It doesn't seem to be affecting braking power or anything but the clunk is quiet loud and can be heard from within the cabin with the windows closed. It seems to me like it's having trouble engaging hence the clunk when you apply the brake.

Not sure if this is related or unrelated - also since yesterday afternoon when going over bumps a rattle can be heard from under the car...?

It seems as though something has come loose and is causing the brake clunk and the rattle?

Any ideas what this is? Has anyone experienced this before? The dealership is quite clueless and I don't want to take the car back a 100 times before they figure out what the issue is so ANY information would be much appreciated and I would be for ever grateful .. Thanks in Advance.

Cheers,
Mish

An audible clunk, usually accompanied with a vibration through the brake peddle, almost always means that the master cylinder is on the way out. Yours is virtually brand new though, so unless it had a faulty master cylinder installed at the factory, this seems unlikely to be the cause as it usually shows up on older vehicles with at least 100K miles/160K km on the clock.

Barely any vibration can be felt through the pedals, virtually none. I mean I can sense the clunk but I'm not sure if that's just in my head because I can hear it? haha Hopefully the dealer can sort it out ASAP

Welcome to the family mate.

Sorry I can not help you much.

I would suggest you do the following.

Go back to the dealer. Be firm but polite, explain the problem and then tell them that you want to go for a drive with the service manager to point it out to them.

Do not just leave the keys there and say plse fix it, otherwise you will be going back 1000 times.

I had my 6month/12000km service on Monday.
I have an annoying rattle/rolling screw in the steering wheel location in the air bag section or in the steering wheel gear directly behind the air bag.
More annoying than enything else. The radio volume fixes the problem but that's not the point.

I gave them a small write up step by step on how to replicate the problem and a digital picture of where the noise was coming from.

I go to pick the jeep up and the service manager states to me that he drove the vehicle and could not replicate the problem and said if I wanted to go for a drive.

So he jumps in but I said can I plse drive.
All I had to do was drive out of the parking spot and reverse back and the Jeep performed 10/10. His face went all red

So Elanor is booked to go back in on the 29th of Jan.

Just be nice and firm and go armed with as much info as you can.

Thanks, love being apart of the family already haha love the Jeep! Can't wait to mod it into a beast! haha

Yeah I figured I'd have to pretty much diagnose the problem myself and hand feed the information back to the dealer to ensure it gets fixed on the first visit, I really don't want to spend countless days driving back and forth to the dealer.

I'm pretty the rattle has also got to do with the Brake clunk so hopefully both issues are caused by the same loose component
