Default 2011 JKU w/7500 miles needs new auto trans?!?

Guys, I have a 2011 JKU w/auto transmission. 6 months old and with 7500 miles. Was in the trails yesterday (light and easy ride, and nothing tough or technical at all) and on the drive back home I saw the "Hot Oil" indicator flashing at me. I shut her down and let it sit for 30 mins to cool. Upon restart, the warning is gone but my check engine light was on. Since I was 30 miles from home, I started the drive.

Only then did I notice that I didn't seem to have overdrive (or even 1st gear for that matter)! I would be at 4200 RPMs at 65 MPH. Never went over 15 MPH in the trails so don't know if the issue was there the whole ride or not but do know that I had no issues at all driving to the trailhead.

Took it to my local Jeep Dealer last night and got the call today that my the rig threw out 4 codes. One is P0732 and one is P0731. First and Second gear syncing errors. I do not recall the other 2 he mentioned but he said they needed to open the transmission and would likely either need a rebuild or a replacement. Said I will be out of commission at least a week.

Anyone have any similar issues? Not happy one bit about this.

Dude, that sucks... I have never heard of this. On a positive note, I really like the color of your jeep.

Hope everything works out for you. Keep us posted.

Not yet. Not sure they can though seeing as though they trick out most themselves on their lot via a local Jeep customizer called Fortec.

My kid has an 11 and says the auto trannys are known to overheat. He bought a cooler for insurance before he took it off road.

Not sure about the 12s, guess we'll know in a year

Rule #1: Never get an auto tranny in a 4x4 that's going to be used off-road.
Rule #2: See rule #1.

even though I agree with you, better put your flame suit on hehe.

The only exception is if its a purpose built auto or one over speced for the application, the 42LRE is about as far away from either of those you can get, the new auto in the 2012s I hear is a big difference but only time will tell.

Forgot to mention that the dealer told me they were not able to provide a loaner vehicle while this gets repaired but to call Jeep Customer Care and see what they can do.

Just got a call back stating that they will indeed authorize a loaner (starting with 14 days coverage) to "... Allow the dealer the time they need to work on it. "

Not good w/ the tranny.
Please keep us posted if they choose not to waranty it. I think they (dealer & Chrysler) have all the leeway they want to deny it (tire size change). Hopefully they will do the right thing and fix it at no cost to you. Good luck bro!
