2012 Engine Temps
My 2012 with about 2k on it, shows no signs of getting that hot. My driving is in 75miles a day, highway, in Utah. 100% stock. It was hot here when I got it...but it has just started to cool down out side.
Don't know if this helps ya any. But, its my limited input.

I'd try an IF thermometer on your radiator as the tie breaker first. That's just my thoughts and probably the cheapest route as well.
BTW, we've had 115 degree days here in Texas and my 2012 temp gauge always sits in the same spot (middle) with a/c going, stop and go Dallas traffic, whatever. It certainly has never appeared to be hot.
Keep us updated on your progress, and good luck.
Update: Ok, an infrared temp gauge is probably the only tool I didn't have, so now I just ordered one from Amazon.com! After reading all the reviews I bought the Fluke 62 Mini Infrared Thermometer for $90.41 shipped to my door. Should have by this Friday perhaps.

You definitely need a tie breaker then. Do you have a buddy or know of a shop that has an Infrared Thermometer that you could use? With the stock gauge sitting right in the middle you certainly need to know if it's accurate or defective IF this other gauge your using says something different.

Being 4 am'ish on my post, I meant to say the neck area of the radiator right past where the rubber hose connects. Yawn... good catch. For aftermarket electric radiator fans, that's the area you insert the temp control probe.
