2012 Still ticking what to do next???
That tick will progress and eventually they'll fix it hopefully before something catastrophic happens. I had a dealer tell me that a noise was completely normal after trying unsuccessfully to fix it. They gave me a goofy look when asked if they were knowingly defrauding the manufacturer by replacing good parts under warranty while trying to repair an engine that had no issues. Three months later the a/c compressor was finally loud enough they couldn't ignore it and I got a new one.
I hope you get some satisfaction out of them ...I think I would take it to another dealer see if they can't help you more. It just makes me think of another gentlemen on here who had a bad experience which left him with a strike across his vin# and they would not do any warranty ..no matter where he went. I gasped at the thought that in this day and age something so unacceptable could take place. I believe I would sell the vehicle and never ever buy from the company again. Burned once shame on u Burned twice shame on me!! There will be many more stories like yours popping up and we'll have to wait and see what happens. Just hope you get it worked out.

I cannot describe the feeling that I felt when Chrysler finally told me I'm wrong, they're right, nothing else they can do for me. Absolutely sickening to my stomach. Whether they understand it or not, all of us that spend our hard earned money on Jeeps are the *only*reason* they are doing as well as they are - we're the only reason there is a service department or tech advisor lead in the first place. What disheartens me the most is that I have yet to change anything out on my Jeep in fear of them blaming this on different wheels or larger tires or a lift or a new antenna (I wouldn't put it past them)... I have a pair of ACE Engineering rock rails sitting in my entry way that I haven't even opened the packaging on - and now I guess I might not.
I can't quit dwelling on this. They have my Jeep right now and stuck me in a crappy compact Toyota. I'm going to lose sleep over this whole ordeal. Completely ridiculous.

Who knows, maybe this is all 100% normal and I'm losing my mind.
Does anyone else have a 2012/2013 with a really loud lifter-like tick like the OP on this thread? Is that a 'normal' noise ? Jack told me that all Pentastars do that - but that the Wrangler has a design that doesn't muffle the sound as much... just a fair warning to anyone who is looking to buy any vehicle with a Pentastar. This whole situation is 'bleh'. That's how it makes me feel. That's the only way I can describe it. It's even more 'bleh' that the 'end of the line' guy isn't helpful or understanding at all.
Did you show the idiot service adviser any articles on the head upgrade? They're all over the internet. This is a known issue; not only with Jeeps but Town and Country's and Chargers. Did you try a different dealer? Seems like other owners are having an easier go when this problem pops up.
I'm willing to take it to Boerne, but I don't think it will make a difference. Jack Brinks is allegedly over all of the dealerships... and I've been working with Chrysler directly. So, assuming there is nothing flagged in the warranty system, maybe they'd be willing to help me out. It's definitely worth driving out there in my opinion.

Another (possibly final) update on my situation...
After much back and for with Chrysler (the rep Pam who has been helping me has been great, but I can't seem to find anyone else who cares at all) and my dealership, the final call has been made by the local area technical service manager (not sure what his exact role is) Jack Brinks to not work on my ticking engine - in his words:
"I'm who people come to when a call needs to be made like this. My answer is 'no', we will not be doing anything with your engine. The ticking you're hearing is the injectors and is completely normal. We could swap your engine out three times and I can guarantee you you're going to have three different ticking sounds... it may be super quiet, may be louder, or may even sound different... but it's going to tick." The fact that he said I'd get three different results from three different brand new engines doesn't sound normal to me. Sounds like a tolerance or QA problem at the factory.
I told him that this noise wasn't present when I purchased the vehicle. He told me, "it most definitely was present, you're just paying more attention to it now that you have been driving it every day." I went over this thing with a fine tooth comb when I bought it... how would I overlook such obnoxious ticking coming from the engine when one of the most common things I pay attention to when I am looking to buy a car *is* the engine and if it's making lifter noises? This all started around 3,000 miles for me - my wife, family members, friends have noticed it too - and it's just getting louder. I guess my whole extended family is just insane.
They pulled another 2012 JKU up and started it. It had the definitive super loud clanking and clacking that the head is in need of immediate replacement (mine isn't as bad as this one sounded) but none of the same loud ticking mine was doing. I told him that's definitely the bad head noise and he looked in the cab and said, "I don't see a check engine light on, so we're not replacing anything. This noise is totally normal unless there is a check engine light on." So I asked him why mine and this one were making completely different noises, but weren't making the same type of noises at all and he just said, "they're both normal noises for these wranglers."
I asked him about the ticking on startup that I get after the Jeep has been sitting. He asked me, "did you ask the service team here? What did they tell you?" I said, "they told me it's normal... but it doesn't make sense to me." He said, "then it's normal, end of story." I asked him to explain to me exactly why this happens - and why it happens intermittently if it *is* in fact supposed to be happening. He wouldn't. He told me that he has 6 or 7 Jeeps and that they all make random noises and that he's executive officer of the San Antonio Jeep Exclusive, so he knows his way around a Jeep. I asked him how many of those Jeeps are JKs... "none." So, the fact that his old CJs/YJs/TJs make random engine noises and random times means it's normal for my nearly $40k JKU Rubicon to do so. Sigh.
He ended with, "it's obvious we're not going to be able to please you on this issue, but there is nothing we're going to do here and that's that." They agreed to work on the e-brake binding, the lights randomly flickering, and the random rattling/grinding noises from my stick shift... so they got me a rental car... but not before he(Jack) asked, "now, you don't have any sort of background, do you? No sort of history? Good credit? Have your insurance? They check that when you're renting a car." The only reason I can think for him to ask me that at all is because I'm much younger than he is and I have full tattoo sleeves and a few piercings. I bought a brand new JKU Rubicon... why would I not be able to rent a car from Hertz? Insulting. Maybe if I had worn some slacks, removed my piercings, and covered my tattoo sleeves with a button up it would have gone better.
I just got off the phone with the Chrysler rep and she said that unfortunately Jack is the end of the road for what they're going to/able to do, but she'll express my concerns to the customer service management team. Sounds like I'm stuck with a ticking Pentastar and no love from a company I've given so much money to (3 times now). I told her the extended lifetime warranty I bought is useless to me, being they won't even help me out with anything under the factory warranty... so she's checking to see if she can refund it or something similar... but the way everything else has gone, I'm not holding my breath. She asked if I'd like to purchase a new Wrangler on a discount and I told her that after this service, I don't want to purchase a Chrysler product ever again. Today was the service manager and area tech advisor teamed up against me, and that's crap. While the sales process was a breeze, the service at BlueBonnet Jeep in New Braunfels, TX - and from the tech advisor Jack - is horrendous.
All I want is for someone in Chrysler service to listen, acknowledge the noise as being uncommonly loud(if it is some sort of normal noise), to not flat out call me a liar, to not assume I'm some felon with a bad record and bad credit because of my tattoos, and to try and help me remedy these issues. Why is that impossible to find? My Jeep is 100% bone stock, by the way.
Lovely way to start my Tuesday. Best of luck to anyone out there still fighting with Chrysler. If anything changes I'll let you all know.

Hey man , I too had a ticking penty . I bought mine from Henson cjd in madisonville tx. There feeding you a line of bullshit. The guys at Henson gladly replaced my drivers side head no.questions asked...now mine runs like a sowing machine , nice and quiet. Oh and FYI I'm driving a rental 2012 dodge journey with the pentastar while mines having the heater fixed and that engine runs nice and quiet and smooth so for them to.tell you they all do it is horseshit. A dealer close to where I live in Houston told me the same crap , that it was normal , so I took it back to Henson dodge and in 4 days they had the engine back in my rig and purring like a kitten

Did you buy yours from Henson? I wonder if they were willing to help because you bought it there. I wonder if I should bring this whole mess up when I call them or if I should just act like I have no idea and need my engine looked at?
