I am not sure because mine was self contained in the block and leaking into the combustion chamber. You say it is leaking on the exhaust manifold which should mean it is fairly visible on the side of the block?....unless it is a really slow leak. After the engine is warmed up, do have any water coming out of the tail pipe? Is your oil still clear and not milky? If no to either means you may be extremely lucky that no damage has occured via watered down oil. It needs to be rectified but at least you could keep driving and topping off the coolant daily.

i cant see any coming out the side of the motor, I can smell a strong coolant smell, I topped it off last week in the resivoir, its down to 1/4 again, and still nothing outside. The oil does not look milky but it's not really registering on the dipstick either. There is some water coming out of the tail pipe when parked, but my patriot does that too. so i am not sure wtf is going on at this point. I am not very hopeful however.

If anyone has had a coolant flush/fill, one would need to burp the system by parking the jeep on a hill (nose up) and have the jeep running with the heater on. I would however search the "L" hose brackets located at the engine block for signs of dried coolant as the plastic parts tend to develop hairline cracks over time. Often if one has a strong smell of coolant it could be nothing more than an over filled reservoir, I tend to keep our reservoir below the marks but just keep and eye on over time. I've complain about the reservoir being too close to the radiator which heats up the coolant over time so it smells worse than it is, assuming you don't see any leaks or cracks.

Also, lets all realize that we must used the correct coolant in the system. Mixing coolants can cause a chemical reaction, gel then harden over time. I went to the shop to have the flush, but they wanted to use some no name brand I've never heard of before claiming this new coolant is "universal". I didn't trust it so I brought in some of my own coolant.

I just did a scan and the only error was my gas cap. no misfire etc so using that, I don't think I have any coolant going into my engine. That being said, there is alot of coolant going somewhere since its draining my reservoir alot. I have been tossing what I can buy in there since im going through so much. We are going to do a through look to see where it's going. I feel a little better that it's not going into my engine however.

Oscar may be on to something with the hairline cracks in the plastic connectors. Otherwise I would not trust this situation to be minor since you aren't tripping a CEL for misfires. Coolant leaks are a major problem with these engines and you may be very lucky if it is just a cracked connector as Oscar suggests. I'm curious about your filling of the overflow- when do you top it off? Hot or cold? Oscar may also be right about the over-filled reservoir and that could be explained by when you fill it.

Cold. The coolant drops so that the heater core is "gurgling" when you start the rig. after I fill the reservoir that stops. Funny today I took it for a run around town for about 45 mins or so and never got any smell from outside the vehicle after I parked it. I dont know. It's effed up.

It is effed up soooo you have to almost be a forensic investigator and mechanic to keep from losing your butt. I will never get my money back out of it but the damned thing is almost rebuilt. I have to keep it to get the value out of it. I normally have Hondas or Fords with one E39 5 Series BMW and I will have to say the quality of a Jeep is alarming. The electrical design failure is the weak point that I am facing now as it ages. How is it that jeep has an iconic vehicle that continues to have recurring problems for more than 10 years? I bought this Jeep for my daughter because she wanted one so bad and it still looks like it is 3-4 years old. She was a typical 16 year old driver but lived 2 hours away from me. She didn't tell me there were, "these light thingy's on my dash but I didn't know it was a problem." I have spent so much money to repair her damage and typical breakdowns for a jeep at the 8 year mark. I have replaced the engine and had a total rebuild of the transmission, replacing brakes/rotors/ABS sensors, replaced the cooling fan for the radiator, and the cost for the breakdown recovery.

I have found my coolant leak. PHEW. it's leaking around the bottom big hose going into the water pump. I think a new hose clamp will fix the issue. We got under the rig and looked around and saw where it's leaking. Now, to use another type of clamp or another of the same type.

use a "t-bolt" stainless, less likely to mouse your hose. might look at replacing the hose too.

from visual inspection, The hose looks fine. Looks to be pull from the housing a bit letting the coolant seep out. Can you elaborate on the T-Bolt?
