Default 2014 JKU oil change problem

Ok last night I went to do the first oil change on my 14 JKU and was given the wrong NAPA oil filter at the store. Long story short I tried the wrong filter and went back to the original due to the oil pressure light staying on with the wrong filter. My problem now is that the spring inside my cartridge cap has broken loose from the cap so I installed it the best I could but I'm not 100% that it is in correctly due to the fact that it was hard to hold while installing the cap. Has anyone had this problem? By the way the wrong filter was for a 2013 not 2014 3.6.

I would think both take the same filter.

2014 take a different filter than the 12-13 models.

Just get a new filter from jeep.

If it were me I would be worried for any potential oil problems of any kind. I wonder if the filter cap is a part that is available from the dealer. If it is it surely could not cost too much. At least you would have piece of mind that the part is right.

I am going to pick up a mopar filter tomorrow and a new cap if I can't fix the spring. I wasn't sure if anyone here had tried to use a 13 filter because it is different and won't work. Just trying to spread the word so no one goes through the same trouble I did.

I hate to be "that guy", but if you are going to wrench on your own ride, make sure you have the correct parts. Everything is verifiable via the Internet.

In his defence there really was no reason to assume jeep had changed oil filters for no apparent reason on the 2014's

Default hey

I ran into something at advance - ended up being my fault.

I needed front brakes for the wife's car.

FRONT brakes. Remember that.

I got them online - shipped to me

Go to install - way too big - wtf?

after 2 trips to the store figure it out.

the FRONT brakes depend on the BACK brakes the vehicle came with.

if you have rear drum, you have bigger front brakes, if you have rear disc (like hers) you have smaller fronts.

what a PITA people.

it's a pad, it's a filter. we don't have to have a billion different ones. just 5 - 10 really good ones!

I used to be in the parts business and there is no "Standard"...all models have lots of variations.

Back in the day people would come in with a GM 3.8 V6 and we would ask them where the Distributor Cap was and we would catch a ration of S&$T from them for asking such a stupid question.

3.8 V6 with the cap in the front was the "BUICK" V6, cap in the back was a "CHEVY". 2 different motors!!

When I bought my 14, the dealer made me aware that the filter had changed and the ones at the auto part store wouldn't work. I half assumed he was just trying to get me back in to sell service, but now there is validity to his claim.

OP - If you havent already done so, go grab a new filter from your local Jeep store (or maybe two, one for a back up).
