2500 mile oil change?

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think the light will go on when the computer senses the need for an oil change. The light is also dependent on driving habits so it could go on before or after 3,000 miles. The general consensus on this site seems to be to get the first oil change done before 3,000 miles anyway. So change the oil and reset the light. It couldn't hurt.

Yeah I was planning on doing it at 3k anyways, so I'll have it done.

I'm having the dealer do an oil change tomorrow at about 2500 miles. Sure, I know that it may not be necessary and Chrysler really owns the engine since they gave me the lifetime warranty, but I still want to be good to it. Can't hurt to do a first oil change early

There is a TSB about the early oil change indicator. Here's the link. http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-tsb-re...ts-prematurely

My light came on at 5500 the first time and my book says every 6000 miles. Anyone else out there have the same thing? I did my first change at 3000 and then one at 6000 and then one at 11,000 but I put about 400-500 miles on my jeep a week and doing an oil change every 6 weeks sounds ridiculous.

show me where in the book it says 6000 miles and I'll show you a flying unicorn. You change your oil every 3000 miles no matter what type of oil and what type of engine.

Mine went on ~2000-2500. I had already changed it at 1700 and I changed it again at 3000. Now I change it every 3K. BTW the book does say every 6000 miles for "normal" driving. This means no stop and go, no towing or offroading. So most people don't fall into that category.
