I have the same problem, and it happens worse when it's cold outside.

The best thing I've found is to change your gear oil. I did (put unfortunately I went with the Mopar oil) and it went away for 10,000 miles, but is slowly coming back. Next time I am going to try and find a synthetic gear oil and see if that makes it go away for good.

x2 on what Yeti said. I found that if I go from 1st to neutral, let the shifter sit there (actually let go and center itself) and then left and down into 2nd, it goes in a lot smoother. Kind of like double-clutching an old non-synchro gearbox but without the footwork.

I have a 2010 rubi 2 door only has 1500 miles and mine has done this since I first drove off lot. I have just gotten use to shifting really slow when going to 2nd. This seems to work most of the time.

Got a 2010 Rubi and all the symptoms described in the previous posts.
  • Bad crunching/hanging when cold
  • Better once she warms up
  • no crunching when downshifting

Have exactly 11111 miles on her. Tried the Amsoil tranny fluid - no improvement. Just ignoring it at this point. Love the Jeep and I consider this a minor issue.

Had mine in today(2010 Sahara) to have the "slave cylinder" replaced because of a squeaky clutch. Now it seems like the clutch is way too soft and grabs later than normal so now I think I should have just lived with the squeaking....Never had a hydraulic clutch before so not too sure what to expect!!! Anyone else's clutch really easy to press and release?

I have a 2011 with the same exact issue that is being described in this thread. I have been waiting to see if the issue will fully go away for me once it gets warmer here in CT. It definitely seems to be terrible when it is 14 degrees out on the way to work in the morning and then a little better on the way home.

Here's hoping....

Yea my clutch is really easy to depress as well. Compared to my tj/mini Cooper/ tractor... It is very soft and doesn't catch gear until I release it about half way.

Anyone tried shifting it without the clutch 0.o
Old school...?
