3% left on the oil, really!!!!
Sometimes I guess that people in general never cease to amaze me but then again. I just purchased my 2014 Sahara and took delivery on Wed. of this week, between the rain and work haven't had time to do much of anything to it yet but was going through the gauges and noticed that 3% was left on the oil. Now I don't know about you guys but I get panicky at 30% and it's usually changed at that. Maybe I'm too picky but I'd stroke out at 3%.
So this weekend I'll get to do my 1st oil change and service, 6qts of Pennzoil Plat. and a mopar oil filter. Anything else I need to pay closer attn. too? I mean I check other stuff but since I'm new to Jeeps I thought I might ask.

Sometimes can't go by the computer....it all depends on the previous owner. I can tell you that I change my oil based on my own mileage interval, which does not align with the computer's idea of when I need to change it.....so I will randomly get the "oil change" warning light pop up when I'm in the middle of my own interval. That said, I think anytime you buy a used vehicle it's just better to change some of these things so you know exactly know what is in it, and when the interval started with your ownership. I've always just factored this additional cost in to the purchase of a vehicle.
Resharp's experience is the same as mine. The problem with the JK is that it does not know when you changed the oil, so you have to manually tell it by doing a hokey pokey dance, of pressing the gas pedal to the floor 3 times with the key in the on position, then turn the key off and then back on. All while you're doing that, it doesn't give you any notification that it actually reset the oil monitoring timer, unless the light is already on. Not everyone knows the hokey pokey dance and I'm willing to bet tnheritage being knew wasn't aware of it either. So the oil currently in it, could be brand new and the original owner just didn't do the hokey pokey reset dance.
Feel fortunate, on the 2014 you actually have a gauge that tells you when it's getting close to needing to be changed. My 2009 Sahara has a light that suddenly appears out of nowhere. It's a useless light, the same as my TPMS light They both cause me more grief than what they provide for usefulness. I guess they call them "idiot" lights for a reason. Maybe you need to be an idiot to figure out how to use them.
I change my oil every 3K miles, and I have to remind myself to remember to do the dance to reset the system but there's been times I've forgotten the steps on how to do it and have seen my light on with pretty new oil in it.

3k miles seems like short interval unless using conventional oil....but didn't think anyone used conventional anymore. Surely you're not changing full synthetic every 3k miles?
