On a rebuild not a factory new engine I actually do it at about 50 miles the first time. I was lucky tho and surrounded with engineers who new how to build engines and make money so not a waste of time in the long run. first few miles on cheap oil so rings seat better.

I would just throw in regular oil and change it at 1000 miles. If you just did pistons and rings you won't have as much wear as a new motor breaking in everything. Is this the original motor? in my experience hydrolock causes a lot of lower motor damage.

So just cheap store brand oil?
Or just normal Dino oil?

I don't know all about it, I've heard you don't really need it for certain parts but I've never done a partial rebuild so I never looked into it. Don't even know how long you should run it as I've always changed it after a cam break in period.
Yeah I just wanna be sure it was a lot if work and a lot of late long nights and a week without a jeep so I don't want to go they it again haha

Just stay out of lakes lol
So your recommendation is just don't use it? I'm just afraid cuz I want the rings to seat properly which is advertised on certain break in oils but not too many. Last time I was at the stealership picking up parts the guy just said take it easy for 500-1000 miles with short bursts of heavier acceleration but I forgot to ask about break in oil. I asked my boss today and he said he's never used break in oil

So... why are you replacing the rings in the new motor?

Had low compression because of the rings

Is that a common issue with the 3.6? Never heard of that.

That said, the simple solution is to just mill the heads! lol

I'm guessing this was a used 3.6L that you partially rebuilt.
If you're just breaking in Rings and Pistons, I would run regular Dino and change after 1000 miles.
Drive it at varied speeds for first 500.
