Default 3.8 engine tick

It's been making this ticking noise for a couple months and I cannot figure out what it is. I've checked both exhaust manifolds and neither one appear to be cracked so I'm hoping someone else has some input.

Might try a thicker oil to see if it goes away.

I'll try that. How much thicker of an oil do you think?

Does your Jeep consume oil like many of the 3 8s do?

I'm subscribed to this thread. I'm interested to see what the fix is for this. What were the things you checked first? Mine does the same. Seems to be intermittent for me. 08 auto 150k. Thanks.

Sounds like lifters to me. You may want to pull off the valve covers and check the torque on the lifter bolts. A thicker oil may make the noise go away, but that doesn't fix the problem if you have a loose lifter.
