Default 6 speed gear whine?

My 6 speed seems to have a little gear whine starting. The whine is only noticeable in 2,4, and 6. Has anybody else noticed this? I am going to change the fluid in the tranny and transfer case but I really dont expect this to help.

Can you describe it a little better?
If you have a body lift it could be due to that. I've heard of guys not being able to shift into the even gears or popping out of gear after a body lift.

It also could be when you shift into those gears. I've experienced that when I start in second (which I don't do often) that it whines but that is because of the strain.

usually a whining sound is indicative of bearings going out. My guess is its in your tranny... but its just a guess. Should take it to a mechanic to figure it out

it could be the tranny dying but if you have low miles like me (< 3k) then i doubt it.

I don't have a body lift. I agree that the whining is probably the bearings starting to go out.

Update: Replaced the tranny fluid with Royal Purple Synchromax and it seems to have quieted the whine down quite a bit. There was a bunch of metal on the magnetic drain plug though.

It's commonplace for the drain plug to be fuzzy.
