Default Adding a hard top

I bought my '14 JK without a hard top. But I may know someone who is getting rid of his.

What do I need to do so I can use this hard top on my Jeep? What do I do about the wiring harness for the wiper motor and the defroster? (I have a Sport S with heated mirrors, so I have a defrost button). What about my existing soft top? Does it even come off?

Check Quadratec or one the dealers on here that sell factory parts for a complete hard top wiring kit.

The soft top does comes off, but you can also fold it up and leave it installed. That's how the dual top option comes. I would think your jeep comes pre-wired, but maybe not. It's a very simple install. Bolts right on.

^^^ BAD IDEA!!! Jeep only installs the soft top inside of the hard top for the initial shipment of the Wrangler from the factory. It is not meant to be kept under the hardtop, read your owners manual. You'll end up wearing holes in the fabric and will have to replace the soft top!!!

Yes your factory soft top will come off of your Jeep. If you bought it brand new it should have come with a guide on how to operate the soft top. Read the guide and your owners manual, you'll become a pro & won't even need to ask us how to do it next time!!!

X2, don't do this.

To the OP, there is a wire harness kit that can be installed. Once everything is installed, you'll need to have the dealer activate it with their scan tool. Then everything will work just like factory.

X3....
You can't have both on at the same time.

It is easier to start with a hardtop and get a soft top later than vice-versa.

Huh? The soft top on my old '07 came from the factory bolted in, folded down, and encased in the leather cover. I don't see how this will wear holes in the fabric if its down and out of the way. Mine was like that for years with no damage because the hard top doesn't even touch it.
