Default Advice please.......

Purchased at the end of November......

My 2008 Sahara Unlimited that I have put less then 500 miles on has now sat at our Jeep service department for 22 days. I took it in 4 weeks ago to have the engine temperature gauge looked at. They flashed the computer and handed it back. A couple of days later it was not working again. I took it in on the 3rd of Dec and it has been there ever since. As of Saturday they have no idea when a new console will be in.

The service manager said if I like that I could just take the Jeep until it comes in. He also said that even though the engine temp gauge is not working that it should be fine. SHOULD BE FINE?? I pride myself on having good luck but I do not feel like rolling the dice on that one.

Any advice on how to handle this?

wow...

Did they give you a loaner Jeep? If so, I would let it sit there until fixed.

If not, I think i would be demanding they give you another Jeep.

500 miles huh... I'd be furious...

I'd be pissed too. I would ask for a loaner if you don't have one yet. then i would also ask why they haven't taken a console off a jeep on thier lot to put in yours. i would also be calling other dealerships and seeing if thay had the part or how long it would take for them to get one.

My engine temp gauge was going goofy and finally took the dirt nap. Turned out to be engine temperature sensor. Mine was in and out in one day but I drove it with no problem until the part came in. You should feel ok driving it, or make them give you a loaner atleast.

When I bought mine some how the swaybar disconnect was tied into the ac somehow. When you hit the swaybar disco button the refridgerant literally blew out from under the vehicle, it was like some one stuck a knife in a tire the wqy it blew out, anyway it sucked but they gave me a chrysler pacifica 4.0 that hauled ass, fun but not the rubi. Sorry for your problems, good luck and keep the documentation in your Jeep folder somewhere for future proof.

I agree with the recommendation of calling other dealerships in the area.

It's funny, the sales guy will tell you how excellent a vehicle is, that it'll never break, etc. But when something does break suddenly your shinny new toy is a POS that "breaks all the time". I hope they get you fixed up before Christmas bro.

When the two rubber tits on your hood melt into a pile of black goo, you know you've overheated.

Default Drive it

I'd drive it. I'd idle it at the dealer to make sure the fan came on when it got warmed up and if so, I'd hit the road. If there are any issues that arise from this like it over heats then I'd insist on another Jeep. Negotiate that before hitting the road.

After the first week they sent me to Enterprise to pick up a rental. When I got there a little 4 door car was waiting. No big deal. Now it is snowing like crazy and it could not even get down the road (used to driving a lifted TJ where it is not a problem). Went back in and picked up a Jeep Commander. These are nice. I would drive my own but if anything were to happen (slim chance, BUT) if something did happen it would be on me since I knowingly drove the Jeep with the defect. I just bought a brand new Jeep that has been in the shop for over 3 weeks. Good luck is apparently not on my side currently.
