Unhappy Air Recirc Creates NOISE

Is anyone else having this problem? Used the recirc button so as to optimize the air conditioner today on my drive home from Louisiana. It was so hot outside that it was needed to cool things down properly. The problem is that the noise produced when the recirc feature is used sounds like you cracked (let down a small amount) a window (just one) at high speeds (74). I can only imagine that the vent that lets the outside air in on normal application is not sealing good. Does this sound right? Is there a known remedy? Thanks for any help.

New one on me, my friend. Try cycling between normal and recirc over a day or so, it might be an air door seal kinked or such...When switched on recirc the a/c blower contol is overridden and only operates on ''HI''. That in combination with the closed air circulation loop makes for a noisy system...

sit in your jeep and turn the recirc on...you'll see the soft top fall. WHen you bring vent air in, the air can't escape fast enough creating a positive pressre bubble keeping the top taught. When you turn in recirculation you can actually see the top fall from inside. Give it a shot. Same thing happens to me.

rcwade, great point, but to clarify my problem, the noise is not made from a flapping top but rather, I imagine from the vent not sealing well to the outside air. My Ford truck made the exact same noise when I just put one window down....a pulsing effect....that drives a person crazy.

sounds like 'cabin buffeting'. i had the same problem in my super crew F150 when 1 window was down. not sure why the recirc would make that noise tho. odd. the pulse, kinda like a helicopter right?

that sound is exactly what I'm talking about. WHen the top moves in and out the pressure changes causing the sound. If you want to test if it's the same thing I'm talking about. Roll the windows up, put the AC on any setting and unzip the rear cargo window about 5" on each side. Take a drive around 45mph with and see if you hear the same thing. Making sure all the seals were tight and zippers closed helped the problem some for me.

I have started to get this with my hard top wether the air is on or not. I need to roll the window down a bit to fix it
