aluminum hinges?

Default aluminum hinges?

preventing rust between doors and hinges using por 15. has anyone removed the paint,and buffed out the door, and hood hinges? also planning on replacing plastic door handles w/ss or billet.anyone experience problems w/quality or installation? thinking brushed aluminum not chrome.

Door hinges are already aluminum.

ya, instead of waiting for them to bubble up,not wanting to do lining,or painting the hinges ,just buff them out because they are aluminum. anyone try this? no need to buy billet, or stainless steel.

anyone just buff the stock hinges out, instead of lining or painting them?

I think he's asking if anyone polished their aluminum stock hinges and left them that way, rather than covering them with bedliner or paint.

I really don't like chrome or anything close to it, so no, I stripped the paint and corrosion off my door hinges and bedlined them. Hope to get to the hood ones this year.

If you do try to strip and polish them, be very careful. I used a soft brass wire-wheel and scratched the metal pretty deeply. good thing primer and bedliner cover that stuff.

I'm thinking that stripping any Aluminum and not sealing them up with something will allow eventual discoloration/oxidation and that probably will not be the result your expecting. Similar to an Aluminum Boat that is clean and shiny when new but gradually turns drab and dingy.

exactemte, like brushed aluminum,dull so not as ghetto. might look good and have a nice factory finnish. i dunno, anybody try this? also the plastic door handles are pretty fragile and cheap kooking, anyone out there try the s.s. handles or the billet ? just bored ,and looking for new projects, thanks in advance
