Annoying manual transmission feature.
I have never had a manual trans vehicle that did this. When stopped on a hill (facing up the hill) it seems that when I move my foot off of the break to the throttle, the vehicle does not roll backwards as with others I have owned. It must hold the break on for a bit or something. I find this most annoying since it then takes a bit more gas than normal to overcome whatever it is that is holding it in place. I have already stalled it several times. I NEVER stall a standard vehicle on a hill (one that rolls backwards a bit when you take your foot off of the brake).
How do the rest of you feel about this and what is your experience? Is there a way to disable this feature or some trick to get around it?
Thanks for any help/advice you have to offer.

I also have this feature as a option installed on my Rubicon 6 speed. I also find this a royal pain. There are many things being done for us as help but I find most of them a pain. Just something else to deal with when it becomes a issue. Wait till you have a slight uphill grade and you are trying to ease a small boat trailer into a tight spot. Ease the throttle (oh wait - it is not a cable throttle but a signal from the throttle to computer to fuel ), ease the clutch and try to over ride the hill hold option and ooops - start again. hahahahahahaha You probably stalled it more from the lack of throttle feel that the hill hold option. I love this jeep but some of the new ways are just a nuisance to me.
Have fun and maybe someone will give some input on how to disable the option.

People just cant drive stickshifts. I work at an exotic car store, and you have no idea how many people I take for test drives, and I watch them ease out the clutch until it catches. Then they sit there though the entire light this way!!
Hey guys. I have a 2011 and noticed this was something new after previously owning an 08. I also noticed that it can be disabled in the EVIC menus on the steering wheel. I don't know if all jeep vehicles have the EVIC controls however.

HSA Off
If you wish to turn off the HSA system, follow this procedure:
1. Start with the engine off and vehicle in PARK (automatic transmission) or NEUTRAL with clutch out (manual transmission) with wheels straight. Apply parking brake on manual transmission vehicle.
2. Start the engine.
3. With the engine running, the brake applied, and the clutch out, rotate the steering wheel 180° counterclockwise from center.
4. Press the ESP OFF switch four times within twenty seconds.
5. Rotate the steering wheel 360° clockwise (180° clockwise from center).
6. Cycle ignition switch OFF then ON.
7. If the sequence was completed properly, the “ESP/ TCS Indicator Light” will blink several times to confirm HSA is off.
Steps 1-7 must be completed within 90 seconds to turn off HSA. Repeat steps 1-7 to re-enable HSA functionality.
P.s. At least it is not popping out of first on you, that's some real fun right there....especially if you pull out into traffic.

If you guys do any offroading .. especially on hills, rock and off camber ... the Hill assist is very useful. All of the vehicles I own are manual transmission and I actually really like the HA feature on the JK ...
If you drive anywhere the ground isn't flat it is a very usefull feature. Like in San Fran at a red light with some yahoo sitting on your tail or on some steep hill on the trail and you are in a group and you have to keep stopping. I am glad we have it.
