Anybody else think the 2009 Unlimited's engine is underpowered.
First post here.
I have a 2009 Unlimited Sahara and really like the ride, look and versatility of the Wrangler. Pull it behind our diesel pusher when traveling and its my daily driver back and forth to work.
How ever the one thing I don't like is the engine power. At the least hill or sometimes a good strong head wind the transmission is always shifting down out of overdrive to maintain speed. What a dog. Is every stock unlimited with this engine so doggy? I've even had it back to the dealer to check it out.
Would like to hear some opinions from other 2009 Unlimited owners if they get the downshifting to maintain speed often. If you do what did you do to improve performance if anything?
Thanks, Letsgoagain

Sorry to break the news to you buddy, they are all dogs when it comes to the situations you described. I just click off OD and smash the pedal. I am going to re-gear to get some power out of this gutless motor. You must remember one thing, it's a jeep. They are built to roll nice and easy. Take it out into the mountains or rock and you will find it will not let you down.

Start reading any of the bazillion re-gearing threads. Or the supercharger threads. Or the hemi-swap threads. It's nothing new, and certainly not specific to 09 unlimiteds...
About the only way to make it better is to regear. But if that's out of your price range right now, you might try a Superchip Flashpaq. It may help enough to make you happy......or should I say.....happier.....lol.

Yeah, my stock 2-door 6 speed has plenty of power and gets great economy (for a Jeep anyway), but the first time I drove a buddy's stock unlimited auto I was shocked. Although the motor only puts out 202 HP at the flywheel to start with, the combination of the heavier long-wheelbase Unlimited with the tall stock gearing and the 4-speed auto box with the very tall overdrive ratio combine to really suck the performance out of the V6, particularly at highway speeds.
Where I am the majority of Unlimiteds on the road have the torquey CRD motor with the 5-speed auto fitted which seems like a good fit for the Unlimited, particularly when you start adding considerable weight with tire, bumper, winch and armor mods.
