Default Auto trans miss a shift?

I have a 2-dr X w/ auto and have had my trans miss? a shift twice now. Both times I was cruising highway speeds(~50-65mph) trying to accelerate to pass while going up a hill and the damn thing rev'd high(~4-5k) and did not accelerate. When I reacted to the rev'ing and slowing, I took my foot off the gas for a second and then pressed the accelerater again and it then downshifted and took off.
One of the times it was in overdrive, and once it was in 3rd.
This has scared me more than the time I had the "stall".
When I pull out to pass and punch it, I don't want the damn thing gagging on me.
Anyone else have an auto that "gagged" under pressure?
I haven't had it to the dealer to check for codes, but I doubt it would have one.

Yup. Mine does this. I think it's partially because of the drive by wire junk throttle setup, and partially because of the junk underpowered engine. My wifes liberty has way more bag than my Rubicon Unlimited...

Yup...........mine does it too. January 07 build. 4-door X. 6000 +/- miles. I refer to it as an inability of the tranny and/or computer to make up it's f--king mind. Sometimes when you step in it, it acts all confused and decides to do NOTHING, then it changes it's tiny little mind and does what feels like a nuetral drop. BTW.........no codes and the dealer has no explanation or fix.

Mine has done this a couple of times. I thought it was going into 1st gear instead of 2nd and I was just revving too high. I let off the gas so fast I couldn't really tell.

Ours has done this. I thought, as someone else said, that maybe it shifted to 1st when it should have gone to second. Regardless, the engine rev'd so high that I immediately took my foot off the gas.

Never had any other automatic do this.

are you sure it didn't go into first....reason I ask is usually the motor won't rev over four grand unless there is a load on it....try it in park or neutral...

I don't think mine went into 1st... that would have given me a braking sensation at highway speeds. Mine felt like it was neutral until I released then depressed the gas pedal.
This happened pretty quick and I may have never rev'd beyond 4k. I'm not usually looking at the tach.

Mine definately did NOT drop into first because the wildly reving engine resulted in no acceleration. As in, NONE! As to the rev limiter, I can only assume that the computer brain fart that resulted in the "missed shift" also resulted in a failure of the rev limiter to engage. Mine's only done this twice, but that's twice too many for a brand new, $25,000 vehicle. Just to further complicate matters (and add another variable to the equation), I'll admit to driving like your grandmother. In an effort to save wear and tear (and gas) I drive pretty easy. Anybody else with this problem drive the same way?

Mine does this as well. With only 2,000 mi on it I was hoping it was the computer still trying to figure what I wanted it to do. Since you have 6,000 already and it's still doing it, I'm guessing it's not going to fix itself. I've noticed the problem is the worst between 35 and 60 mph. When I get on the big boys' roads it kicks right up from 65 to 85 no problem. I have no complaints as far as power issues go, I've had this same engine in a different, heavier mobile and it never let me down regardless of what I asked of it. I think the problem's somewhat in the tranny and mostly in the "brain."
