Default Automatic shifter handle replacement with overdrive button.

Well guys, I have searched hi and low here and everywhere else on the internet for a solution. I would think if it's possibel to do, someone here has done it.

I have a Mountain edition 2010 with 32" tires and 3:73, so my slush box kicks out of overdrive frequently. I would like to put an overdrive button on the shifter, so I don't have to reach down and forward to hit the stock location button.

I was wondering how hard it would be to route a wire from a momentary switch installed in the factory shift handle(is there even room) down through the shift 'tube' into the console and splice into the factory button so no wires are hanging out.

I also tried to find the Liberty KJ shift handle replacements or write-ups but no luck.

Thanks for helping
Jamo

A friend of mine with some good electrical knowledge said it could be done, he has been thinking in this mod also. He mentioned a 'pulse type' switch should do the job (maybe in proper English has a different name ).
I have not done any scouting on the shifter itself, yet.

Take a look at this post and associated linked video, it shows how is made:
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...r+auto+install

The trick is whether a cable can be passed through the 'hollow' section of the gear lever, in order not to have cables hanging around ....

I'm not sure. But I don't think that the shift tube is hallow?. I think that the locking linkage will be in the way. But anyway, I have a few thoughts for you. Look at a "recessed doorbell button". They are cheep, small, and Momentary contact. Just drill the appropriate size hole and push it in. You could always install a larger tube over the OEM shift tube to hide the wires. Leave the OEM push button in tact. Just wire the new push button in parallel to the OEM button. Then both buttons will do the same thing.

Putting it on the shifter is only complicated due to accessability. Any where else on the console or dash would be simple. Just pick a spot. run the wires and install the pushbutton.

I'd love to do this somehow. A liberty shifter would be great, but maybe a line lock button that mounts to the shifter tube. Hmmm.

You can put an OD control button wherever you want, on a JK 08 anyway. This writup shows an additional one I installed on the console, but I now also have one right to the left of the steering wheel for easy access. But I have riged OD defaulted to "off" and only touch the button if I'm at 65 MPH since I have stock jeep and 3.73 rear with 32" (actual 30.75") height tires. See
