Does anybody know of a write up for an Automatic transmission oil change ?? I ve already replaced the differentials and transfer case oil and that's the only one left
The tranny oil has a long service life. I've done it twice cause I added a trans gage. Not fun and I'd not do it unless I had to. How many miles are on your Jeep?
1. Remove the 10-15 bolts that hold the pan in place. The 3 under the exhaust pipe will be difficult to remove, but they can without removing the exhaust.
2. Pry the pan loose as the sealant will likely hold it in place
3. Clean up huge oil puddle on garage floor (yeah just try to catch it all)
4. Replace filter and let drain for an hour or so.
5. Scrape sealing surface of transmission of old sealant. Take care not to nick surface.
6. Scrape sealing surface on trans pan.
7. Clean both surfaces with solvent to prep for sealant. Must be clean and free of oil.
8. Lay bead of sealant on pan. Lay bead on inside of holes so that oil cannot reach threads. Do not lay too fat a bead as excess will flow into transmission and may cause problems.
9. Replace pan back onto trans. Take care not to upset bead as manuevering pan into place.
10. Follow directions for proper cure. Allow up to 24 hrs
11. After completely cured, add ATF4 into dip stick tube. You'll need a funnel with a thin neck.
12. Take care not to overfill as getting the oil out is not easy (must be suctioned from dipstick tube).
13. Follow owners manual for proper filling technique.
